The Stanford Blood Center is seeking a Operations Director. Under the general direction of the SBC Executive Director, and technical direction of the Medical Director, is responsible for the administrative and technical management of Blood Center operational departments. Delegate responsibility to supervisory and professional support personnel as appropriate.
Core Duties include:
Lead annual operations planning to establish goals and metrics for blood collection, testing, manufacturing and distribution. Oversee timely collection of statistical data for blood operations. Analyze data and respond accordingly. Supervise daily blood operations; coordinate necessary administrative and supervisory staff to provide necessary services and ensure adequate blood supply is available to customers.
Manage department heads and supervisors to develop, evaluate and adjust organizational structures and systems to assure accomplishment of Blood Center mission(s) in the most effective and economical manner. Interview, hire and evaluate operational supervisory staff.
Perform long range policy, personnel and fiscal planning for blood operations. Participate in, and analyze, budget preparation for the Blood Center. Authorize expenditures of approved funds. Recommend reallocation of funds based on spending trends and projections and program requirements.
Serve as department representative in meetings on matter of Blood Center concern. Represent the Blood Center at local, state and national meetings.
Participate in facilities planning; provide effective space management; plan and initiate changes to existing facilities and capital equipment.
Assume overall Blood Center administrative responsibilities in the absence of the Executive Director.
Oversee, interpret and apply Hospital and/or SBC policies and procedures. Ensure departmental compliance with governmental regulations and those of other inspecting agencies.

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, public health or related field required. Minimum of five years blood bank or health care experience required. Must have history of progressively responsible management experience and demonstrated managerial ability. Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of hospital personnel, physicians and the general public and be able to exercise sound independent judgment. Proficiency with personal computer, including word processing, spreadsheets and databases, required.
