Candidates will work with a team of engineers to help develop new products and control architectures. The job requires solid analog and digital power systems design with commensurate laboratory skills. Additional job responsibilities include writing circuit documentation and application notes. Clear and concise communications skills are also essential. Maxim prefers candidates with 6-8 years of power management experience. Talented individuals with less experience will be considered.
Specific Responsibilities Senior MTS Applications Engineering:
Power management IC development. Work with the design team composed of business management, design, applications, test, and product engineering to help create the product. Understanding of control theory, system design, circuit design, power switch design, and magnetics design is essential. SMTS level AEs are ready to learn new product definition skills. Work with customers to learn market needs. Help translate product proposals into initial objective specifications that can be used to design products.
New product evaluation. Hands on lab work, both as an individual and with a team, is required to verify the performance of a specific circuit etc. Prepare evaluation reports and other supporting documentation.
Development of application literature. Create data sheets, lab reports, and application notes that help the customer effectively use Maxim’s products.
Application circuit development. There is frequent need to develop new application circuits and reference designs. These circuits address customer/market application problems and can be quite involved.
Customer support tasks. Address problems associated with bringing Maxim’s products into volume production in the customer’s product. This could be described as doing whatever is necessary to secure a design win or sustain the business. Such tasks include, but are not confined to, direct customer support, securing samples, driving business management toimprove delivery times, answering questions brought up by the business management group, helping out the failure analysis and quality groups when they have problems or questions.
Candidates will primarily work in the main development laboratory. Infrequently there will be some work on the test floor. Candidates will work with system simulation software tools. These tools are high level and are not part of the IC design flow. i.e. Not the same tools that design engineers use.
Bachelor’s degree or Advanced degree plus 6-8 years of applications experience in semiconductor with consistent track record of results
6-8 years of automotive electronics design or product definition experience
Ability to travel globally 2-3 weeks per quarter
Understanding of transistor-level circuit design
Strong written and verbal communication skills
