Job Description:
The Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr. MSL) is a field-based Medical Affairs professional who is primarily responsible for scientific exchange with thought leaders and other HCPs in their assigned territory. This individual will contribute to the long-term leadership structure within Medical Affairs while serving as a scientific resource to support Medical Affairs activities such as medical congress staffing, advisory board participation, as well as cross-collaborative training initiatives. The Sr. MSL will require adaptability and competence to apply strategic thinking to establish objectives and exhibit the ability to execute corporate, departmental, and team initiatives. All typical MSL field functions and territory management responsibilities will be expected for this position. The individual reports to the Associate Director, Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) of the respective region (east or west).
Principal Responsibilities:
Identifies, can gain access to, and develops relationships with thought leaders and other HCPs in the assigned territory
Engages in scientific exchange in response to thought leader requests
Delivers high-quality, impactful scientific presentations to HCPs and audiences at all levels and in various settings, including payors
Compliantly supports company sponsored research, investigator-initiated research, and publications
Stays well-informed of emerging scientific literature/clinical data
Collaborates with the broader organization to provide scientific support and communicate scientific insights
Supports research initiatives and provides support to clinical site investigators
Demonstrates longitudinal leadership within Medical Affairs by direct contributions and in leadership on specific initiatives
Drafts, vets, proposes and leads by example in the provision of innovative ideas and initiative outcomes to MSL leadership, Medical Affairs leadership, and other functional leadership within the organization
Serves as a mentor for MSL team members, leading by example and modeling aspects of the MSL role in interactions with HCPs
Supports the company conference strategy, including staffing of scientific booths at major conferences, provision of scientific coverage, and organization of team coverage. Attends regional, national, and (where needed) international medical conferences to enhance team, company and product awareness
Must be committed to full compliance with all company SOPs, regulatory requirements, and applicable laws including PhRMA guidelines for field-based personnel
Qualifications:
Advanced science/clinical degree (e.g. MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, NP, PA)
5+ years field Medical Liaison experience ideal and/or Medical Affairs leadership experience preferred
Launch experience with multiple agents ideal
Prior experience in Hepatology, Gastroenterology or rare disease preferred
Advanced level of scientific and/or clinical proficiency
Strong oral communication, written communication, and presentation skills
Able to manage a frequent travel schedule with up to 60% overnight travel and has a valid drivers’ license
Demonstrated advanced computer skills [MS Office and Windows] and willingness to learn new applications
Excellent organizational skills
Demonstrated strong business acumen
The anticipated salary range is $195,000 - $215,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience within the industry, education, etc.
