Purpose:
The Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr. MSL) is a field-based scientific professional who serves as an extension of the Medical Affairs organization. Sr. MSLs establish and maintain professional relationships with medical thought leaders throughout the various phases of a product's lifecycle. MSLs provide medical information and education through balanced scientific exchange and provide clinical and scientific support for AMAG and the Medical Affairs department at the direction of Medical Affairs management.

 

Duties and Responsibilties:

  • Identify, develop and maintain professional relationships with medical thought leaders and healthcare professionals by engaging in ongoing and balanced scientific exchanges in disease areas of strategic importance to AMAG
  • Present scientific product related data and disease awareness information in the hospital, institutional, and academic settings
  • Provide disease state awareness, product information and pharmacoeconomic analyses as presentations or other forms of scientific exchange toregional managed care organizations, payers, and other formulary decision makers in response to unsolicited requests
  • Address unsolicited requests for medical information from healthcare professionals via written and verbal responses, with appropriate documentation
  • Support company sponsored trials & other research initiatives including clinical trial site recruitment
  • Serve as liaison between healthcare professionals and the company for unsolicited Investigator Sponsored Research (ISR) proposals after inception bythe investigator, support the review process by the company, and continue interactions with the investigator through completion of the trial and publication of the data
  • Provide scientific support at medical congresses
  • Support external healthcare professional Speaker Training and provide Advisory Board support as needed
  • Demonstrate agility in scientific engagement in a rapidly changing healthcare landscape
  • Contribute innovative ideas to AMAG & the team to support strategic growth objectives
  • Align day-to-day activities with Medical Affairs strategic objectives and the Field Medical Affairs Plan, with flexibility depending upon evolving business needs
  • Maintain comprehensive, up-to-date scientific expertise of disease state, clinical information, product data, and the competitor landscape within therelevant therapeutic area(s)
  • Prepare and present information for initial and ongoing training of sales personnel pertaining to background disease state awareness, productinformation and competitive landscape.
  • Proactively and collegially interact with other field based and internal colleagues; provide insights regarding regional and local issues that impact business and/or healthcare practice


Basic Qualifications:

  • The qualified candidate will have a doctoral degree in a health sciences related field such as PharmD, MD or Ph.D., with a thorough grasp of thepharmaceutical industry
  • 5+ years of field Medical Liaison experience required, or significant relevant experience in addition to industry experience, which can include a combination of key opinion leader and academic subject matter expertise, or related clinical experience.
  • Experience in hematology/oncology, gastroenterology or related therapeutic area with established track record of developing relationships with top tier medical experts


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possesses business and scientific acumen demonstrated by communication of complex scientific and clinical information to colleagues, academicians, and healthcare decision makers
  • Intimate understanding of the managed care arena and the application of pharmacoeconomic principles
  • Proven track record of teamwork, leadership, timely decision making and results orientation in meeting business objectives
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, team, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong presentation and education skills; ability to communicate clinical and non-clinical technical information effectively
  • Travel up to 60-70%
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications
  • Valid driver’s license
