General Responsibilities:
The senior medical director reports to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Population Health. As part of the Population Health clinical leadership team, the medical director is responsible and accountable for assisting in the transformation of UMMHC to a clinically integrated health care delivery system across all venues for UMMHC patients and affiliated independent hospitals and health systems.
The senior medical director will oversee the development and continuous enhancement of current clinical guidelines working to educate other physicians and clinicians about the value of these guidelines in fostering true population health.
The senior medical director will supervise the existing medical director team in strategic development and implementation of population health clinical initiatives and be the operational lead in collaboration with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of population health.
The senior medical director provides clinical expertise for the non-clinical population health team and pursues continuous quality improvement.
The senior medical director will attend, and may lead, regular and ad hoc meetings and planning sessions as required. He/she will also participate in a clinical leadership group (Medical Director’s Group) as established and managed by the CMO of Population Health
The senior medical director will collaborate closely with Office of Clinical Integration-Population Health staff in the functional areas of reporting and analytics, practice improvement, care management, outreach, coding, program management, finance and operations.
As determined by the CMO of Population Health, the senior medical director may represent the Office of Clinical Integration at presentations and meetings with health care organizations or departments associated with UMMHC, the Managed Care Network, the UMass Accountable Care Organization or other external organizations.
Specific Responsibilities
The senior medical director will promote the use of evidence-based medicine, encourage patient engagement, facilitate care coordination strategies, use data and analysis to promote quality improvement and foster a focus on patient-centeredness.
