Job Description

Tri Alpha Energy’s purpose is to deliver world-changing clean fusion energy technology as fast as possible. Backed by private capital, TAE is well along in validating both the science and engineering integration of this technology. While important work remains, Tri Alpha Energy believes it understands the path forward to the first fusion-based commercial power plant.

We have an opening at our Foothill Ranch, CA (Orange County) facility for a Senior Medical Device Engineer who is responsible for the design of first-of-a-kind, complex medical systems and components. The position requires integration of systems such as vacuum, high voltage, and magnetics as part of an accelerator beam system, along with other ancillary systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Design and build innovative equipment to solve technological challenges

Work with an experienced accelerator design team to provide a medical viewpoint and compliance

Perform conceptual design and various analyses of components

Provide input and vision on packaging, finish, specific medical features or requirements

Direct other design engineers and staff performing structural, thermal and electromagnetic analyses

Write detailed technical specifications and procedures

Participate in the fabrication, installation and commissioning of various systems and components

Responsible for meeting schedule and cost goals

Some limited travel required

Required Skills

This position requires heightened security because of access to controlled information, and employment with Tri Alpha is contingent upon Tri Alpha either verifying U.S. person status or electing to apply for, and obtaining, any necessary licenses. Required: B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering

Preferred: M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering

Knowledge of Quality Management systems and Configuration Control (ISO 13485)

Able to work independently, as well as a member and coordinator of a team

Able to manage multiple priorities effectively with proven decision-making skills

Capable of reading and understanding manufacturing drawings, including weld call-outs and quality requirements

Knowledge of stainless steel and various other dielectric and insulating materials

Able to cooperate and communicate well with engineering, physics/science, project management and procurement

Good verbal and written communication skills, including small group presentations

Able to work flexible and extended hours as needed

Takes initiative to carry out assigned responsibilities; asks for and offers help when needed

Software Knowledge and Skills:

CAD experience required (SolidWorks, or equivalent)

Use of a PDM system with both designs and documents

MS Office

Other Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Basic understanding of high voltage electrical systems and familiarity with electromagnets

Experience with medical devices such a MRI or beam based medical devices (Proton or Gamma Knife)

Experience with large research and development project

Required Experience

At least 10 years relevant experience in the design and fabrication of large multi-disciplinary projects

Specific experience in the design and production of medical devices including all quality requirements
