JMT is seeking a highly motivated individual from the Herndon area who has the desire to advance towards a leadership position within the organization. This position has excellent potential for career advancement including developing and leading a facilities engineering practice in the Virginia and Metropolitan Washington region.

The ideal candidate will have extensive background in the mechanical engineering field specializing in Facility HVAC, plumbing and fire protection design evaluation, and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria for various institutional clients' projects. Candidate will be proficient at independently managing M/E/P and multi-disciplined projects while also being able to manage clients.

In addition to the technical and project management skills, the successful candidate will have some experience with and the desire to fully understand the business side of the practice including; client management, financial performance, staff development, and overseeing the quality of our products and services. Existing long-term, repeated client relationships are a plus.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work from the initial conceptual mechanical design to the completion of large and small facilities type projects
  • Plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate mechanical engineering work, including the supervision of the design and progress of a project
  • Resolve a variety of complex problems, (i.e., conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements)
  • Serve as a liaison between clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams
  • Review project contract documents
  • Provide technical guidance and supervise the work of other engineers and technical support personnel
  • Manage the needs of the clients for the VA and Metropolitan Washington region

Required Skills

  • Must be an outgoing individual who works well in a cooperative, team-oriented environment who successfully provides support to multiple office locations
  • Must have knowledge of or the ability to use Microstation, AutoCAD and building load simulation programs; Revit experience is a plus
  • Must show previous experience directing or providing guidance to others

Required Experience

  • 5-20 years of progressive work experience in the mechanical engineering field
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required
  • Professional Engineer's license in VA required with the ability to obtain licensure in additional states within twelve months of hire
  • LEED accreditation is strongly preferred
  • Membership and participation in ASHRAE, USBC or other professional organization preferred

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.

Travel less than 20% to consist of mostly day travel. Travel within the VA and MD regions to be expected.
