Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Sensor

Client is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team focused on the next paradigm in autonomous transportation. This role will require the ability to spearhead projects given ambiguous constraints and drive them to completion. We are looking for someone with impeccable attention to detail to design lightweight, robust, and beautiful mechanical systems. The ideal candidate is an expert in design and manufacturing for all levels of production, and thrives in a fast paced rapidly evolving environment.

Develop and own system architecture based on business roadmap and company goals
Work with ID, EE, and SW teams to define system requirements and functionality
Conceptualize, design, and manufacture elegant mechanical systems and components
Construct functional prototypes and POC’s throughout the design process to validate sub systems before manufacturing commitment
Perform detailed CAD design for all aspects of the aircraft and perform FEA
Produce manufacturing documentation, and manage manufacturing of components at multiple vendors concurrently
Manage the assembly and testing of mechanical systems
Perform failure analysis
Design with a constant focus on aesthetics and function as well as cost and manufacturability
6+ years of mechanical design engineering experience
Expert user in any major CAD system, NX Preferred
Expert in design for all stages of product lifecycle, from initial prototypes to mass production
Detailed knowledge in engineering materials and structures
Extensive hands-on exposure to electro-mechanical systems and sensors
A proven track record of designing elegant mechanical mechanisms and systems
Experience in managing vendors to deliver quality components on times
Demonstrated ability in component fabrication, machining, assembly, and prototyping
Well versed in producing and understanding technical drawings
Experience in tolerance analysis of mechanical parts and systems
Experience with lightweight and/or flying vehicles
Direct experience in composite manufacturing a plus
Direct experience in CNC and manual machining a plus
BSME or greater required
