The Marketing, Sales and New Product Innovation Department is responsible for developing marketing strategies and implementing sales programs for ACS’s Publications Division product lines. Inherent to this is analyzing all results, recommending future direction, and positioning ACS Publications’ products within the chemical/scientific community. The Marketing Department is committed to building a better online, purchasing, and reading experience, as well as improving the scholarly research and communications environment for both the customer and the end user. Key constituents include institutional librarian administrators, corporate librarians, authors, reviewers, ACS members, editors, and the range of end-users (subscribers and non-subscribers).
A critical function of the Marketing Department is a strategic outreach program that fosters communication and nurtures relationships with many of these key constituents. With an extensive portfolio of journals, eBooks and other digital products, Outreach is tasked with developing ongoing conversations and strengthening relationships to instigate positive brand recognition and ultimately increase revenue. With a truly global research community as its audience, ACS Publications has a growing need to expand its footprint and influence.
Reporting to, and under the direction of, the Manager, Global Outreach Events, the Senior Marketing Manager, ACS on Campus is responsible for managing the overall activities of the ACS on Campus program for the Society writ large, as well as additional outreach events sponsored by the Publications Division. The incumbent is responsible for supporting ACS Publications’ outreach engagement strategy and initiatives, with a primary focus on the ACS on Campus outreach program, and is dedicated to contributing to an events program that serves the global community of authors, researchers, and institutional customers/librarians.
The Senior Marketing Manager, ACS on Campus sets the strategic direction and oversees the implementation and execution of the program. Additional responsibilities include onsite event facilitation and public speaking. The incumbent will be responsible for working with the broader Marketing team to promote and publicize events via multiple channels. The incumbent will also be tasked with fostering relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, overseeing and effectively managing multiple, time sensitive priorities.
Of particular importance is that the incumbent can proactively multi-task and prioritize projects in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines and collaborating with a number of internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, detail-oriented and possesses superior organizational, problem solving, and time management skills along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Work Design: Works under supervision. Work is reviewed in progress and after completion. Resolves standard problems. Follows policies, practices and procedures. Seeks guidance on unusual problems. Work involves project coordination, complex problem-solving, strategic and conceptual thinking, research, analysis and writing.
Develop and implement the strategic direction and serve as the overall program manager and champion for ACS on Campus. Responsible for fully understanding the program, including, but not limited to, audience insights, market share, brand awareness etc.
Manage the planning and logistics for 30+ annual ACS on Campus events held globally and in partnership with ACS Publications, CAS, ACS Membership and Society Services.
Lead and manage an integrated marketing strategy and execute initiatives and tactics to drive audience engagement and ultimately meet program goals. Tactics can include, but are not limited to, e-mail, social media, digital and print advertising, newsletters, internal communications, surveys, webinars and conference presentations.
Analyze and review data metrics and ROI to adjust strategy and marketing plans and drive tactics based on response to achieve program goals.
Serve as the voice of the ACS on Campus program by effectively communicating goals and program initiatives internally and cross divisionally. Build relationships with our authors, editors, reviewers, customers and librarians on a global scale.
Oversee and coordinate the creation of content for ACS on Campus. Conceptualize, build and deliver upon new content frameworks and education-based training modules to generate and foster relationships with key stakeholders beyond the “event”.
Ability to travel up to 25% in support of the ACS on Campus events, programs, and initiatives.
Education, Experience and Technical Requirements
College degree in Marketing, Communications, Event Management or related area, or equivalent experience or formal training; Minimum of 8+ years of related experience in digital integrated marketing and event management.
Previous marketing experience with a publisher, or library vendor, is preferred, but not required.
Data-driven approach and strong analytical skills.
Position requires strong organization and communication skills and the ability to creatively resolve issues quickly and manage multiple stakeholders. Seeking a candidate who has the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
