Your tasks and responsibilities

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Manager West Coast Innovation Center Biotech Outreach & Alliances, are to:

 

Biotech Community Outreach

  • Conceptualize, implement, and co-create strategies that are connected to Bayer’s open innovation strategy and business needs;
  • Ensure alignment with internal stakeholders and the local innovation ecosystem in the San Francisco region;
  • Utilize in depth project managementexperience, develop and manage the interaction with the Biotech Incubator (CoLaborator) companies, Bayer, and the regional biotech and innovation community;
  • Develop and implement a communication strategy that messages Bayer’s open innovation activities to the region (e.g. email, social media, etc.), that also leverages the local incubator company activities;
  • Utilize strong scientific and business knowledge to evaluate opportunities and to establish interactions and collaborations between the Biotech Incubator (CoLaborator) tenant companies and Bayer scientists globally;
  • Identify tenants for Bayer’s Biotech Incubator-The CoLaborator;
  • Initiate and manage the residency agreements of those startup companies and manages the partnering evaluation and negotiation process while establishing collaboration opportunities with those tenants.

 

Alliance Management

  • Have an in close partnership with the pharma research project teams, proactively prospects for and helps drive preclinical collaborations, strategic partnerships, and research alliances with Academic/Not-for-Profit institutes in the U.S. ;
  • Identify licensing opportunity in early stage biotech companies that will enhance the research pipeline;
  • Manage and track alliances/partnerships by defining a clear set of objectives and deliverables and steersinternal and external

    stakeholders to the completion of those plans ensuring projects meet timelines and stay within budget.

RequiredQualifications:

 

  • Master’s degree in Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Pharmacology or any related LifeSciences specialty with a minimum of 8years relevant biotech alliance management and drug development experience in the Biopharma or Biotech industry that include experience with leading complex projects with multiple stakeholders OR Ph.D. in Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Pharmacology or any related LifeSciences specialty with a minimum of 4 years of relevant biotech alliance management and drug development experience in the Biopharma or Biotech industry that include experience with leading complex projects with multiple stakeholders;
  • Drug development expertise including a demonstrated ability to develop and work in a partnership with external scientists (academic and industry);
  • Experience in developing research and licensing contracts;
  • Excellent understanding of internal research and management processes;
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly summarize, prioritize, and communicate complex partnering opportunities including the scientific, intellectual property, and competitive situation;
  • Direct experience in managing relationships and interfacing with Academic and Biotech partners as an articulate communicator with strong negotiation skills;
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective internal and external partnerships;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management skills and a demonstrated ability to handle multiple complex priorities in parallel involving internal and external project teams;
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail;
  • Strong influencing skills;
  • Must be able to think on feet and analyze situations and make decisions quickly;
  • Thorough understanding of Bayer’s research areas and relevant new technologies and innovation;
  • Entrepreneurial and result oriented;

  • Experience working with biotech startups and startup entrepreneurs;

  • Ability to understand the scientific rational of the business challenges;
  • Ability to judge and advise on priority of the portfolio projects.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills including report writing skills;
