The Senior Manager, Security, Jackie Robinson Training Center ("JRTC") & Amateur/Youth Programs for Major League Baseball ("MLB") will be responsible for the development and implementation of state-of-the-art security systems and practices for JRTC and MLB's Baseball & Softball Development programs for youth and amateurs throughout the U.S. JRTC is an all-inclusive sports complex in Vero Beach, FL, where youth and amateur teams train, play, dine, and stay together. The Senior Manager will work extensively with the staff of JRTC and other personnel in the Baseball & Softball Development department, and will also interface with MLB's Baseball Operations department and the 30 Major League Clubs. This position is primarily responsible for planning security operations for all domestic youth-related programs, activities, and events.

The Senior Manager will report to the Director of Security and work closely with the Director and the Senior Vice President of Security & Ballpark Operations. The Senior Manager will regularly supervise security professionals who assist MLB for certain events as independent contractors. The Senior Manager must work effectively and professionally with young people, and must be able to liaise with federal, state, tribal, and local law enforcement entities such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Secret Service, Homeland Security, and police departments to ensure the security of MLB's venues, program participants, and staff.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Direct 24/7 security operations for JRTC, including all MLB Baseball & Softball Development programming, MLB umpire camps, and third-party programming.
  • Develop and routinely update written security procedures for JRTC, in collaboration with the Vice President of JRTC.
  • Ensure that third-party security staffing companies provide reliable and consistent coverage for JRTC and associated events and programming.
  • Develop and implement security best practices for youth and amateur events at other locations.
  • Prepare and provide security training for staff supporting youth and amateur events.
  • Assist MLB's Youth Protection Compliance Officer to ensure that all JRTC staff and staff supporting other youth and amateur events comply with MLB's Youth Protection Policy and all laws and regulations related to protecting youth in sports.
  • Coordinate security intelligence monitoring for JRTC and for youth and amateur events held in other locations.
  • Evaluate and provide recommendations to close security gaps and vulnerabilities with a heavy emphasis on incident avoidance versus reaction. Create metrics to measure the effectiveness of the event security program and conduct after action reviews.
  • Assist MLB Clubs as needed in ensuring that security best practices are in place for their particular youth programs and events.
  • Schedule appropriate contract personnel support for JRTC and other youth and amateur events.
  • Conduct investigations and write after-action reports for youth-event security-related incidents. Manage incident response and assist with protocol adjustments and legal matters associated with security incidents as necessary.
  • Maintain strong relationships and coordinate with international, federal, state, tribal, and local law enforcement to develop and implement security plans for JRTC and other youth and amateur events.
  • Perform other related duties as required and directed by the Security & Ballpark Operations Department, including assisting with security at select special events.

REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • This position is based in Vero Beach, FL at JRTC but requires some domestic travel and potentially international travel for other youth events. During JRTC programming, this position must be present on-site at JRTC at least 4 days per week.
  • Minimum of 10 years of law enforcement experience or equivalent security experience with a nationally recognized youth organization or school
  • Significant experience working with youth sports programs ages 9U-18U and with youth chaperones
  • Strong understanding of youth event security design and implementation
  • Experience designing, testing, and implementing emergency management programs (continuity of operation, emergency evacuation, crisis management, etc.)
  • Demonstrable understanding of current youth protection laws, regulations, policies, and best practices
  • Ability to effectively liaise with law enforcement
  • Highly motivated self-starter who listens, follows directions, and pays attention to detail
  • Team player who enjoys working with others
  • Professional demeanor
  • Ability to manage deliverables with time-sensitive deadlines
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate with diverse audiences and particularly with young people
