Definition: the action of obtaining or procuring something.
Don’t you just love it when the official definition uses the same word it’s supposed to be defining? Neither do we.
That’s because at Vital Farms, we’re on a mission to redefine the food industry one ethically-sourced ingredient at a time. While we’re known for our pasture raised eggs - giving our hens 108 square feet to roam and calling bullsh*t on terms like cage free and free range - the truth is we’ve got big plans to do so much more. That’s because we give a cluck when it comes to the health of our animals, the health of our customers, and the health of our planet.
Here’s our definition when it comes to the Senior Manager of Procurement.
You’ll be working with existing suppliers and new suppliers for new sources for new needs. See how many times we used “new” in that last sentence? That’s because we’ve got an entire team of people with all kinds of amazing new ideas, so whether we're launching a new product or finding a better supplier for an existing product, as the Senior Manager of Procurement, you’re going to be at the helm, managing relationships with both external partners and internal teams, from marketing to package engineering to senior leadership.
Pretty exciting, huh? We certainly think so. Even more exciting (in our humble opinion) is that compared to most procurement jobs, cost cutting is not going to be the primary focus of this role. Of course, we want to find suppliers who deliver quality goods at the best price, but what we really want this person to do is support our mission of bringing ethically produced food to the table - that’s job #1.
We’re building out a best-in-class supply chain at Vital Farms so the person in this role has to be great at negotiating, holding our suppliers accountable, while at the same time being an advocate for them. At the end of the day, it’s all about trust.
