The Senior Manager of Corporate Communications plays a leading role in The Scoular Company’s (“Scoular”) Brand Marketing & Corporate Communications (“BMCC”) function, leading and overseeing all internal and external corporate communications for Scoular, including its public relations work. The Senior Manager of Corporate Communications will report to the Director of Brand Marketing and Corporate Communications, who is the leader the team responsible for all efforts tied to the company’s brand, marketing, and advertising initiatives, as well as development and management of its internal and external communications work. The BMCC Team supports the work of Scoular’s three operations divisions (North American Grain and Oilseeds, Specialty Food & Feed, and International Products), Scoular’s services leaders (Human Resources, Finance, Legal, Business Development, and Information Technology), and the work of Scoular’s philanthropic foundation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborates closely with Scoular’s leadership to develop and deploy sophisticated and impactful communications strategies across operations and services groups, as well as externally to support and grow Scoular’s brand
  • Lead, develop, and deliver all internal and external communications work for the company, using a variety of methods, channels, and technologies consistent with best-in-class practices and Scoular’s culture
  • Develop a perspective and strategy on customer communications, in partnership with brand partners
  • Partner with the company’s CEO to develop high-impact CEO communications, town hall content, and other communication initiatives
  • Provide support and counsel to business and service leaders on their communication strategies and content, including coaching to leaders based on developed understanding and knowledge of the company’s business operations and culture
  • Create, develop, and foster a brand and voice for the company’s communications, both internal and external, in partnership with the BMCC’s brand leader
  • Develop and execute on, in partnership with leadership, industry and business-to-business communication campaigns, including to customers, to enable and grow Scoular’s brand in the marketplace
  • Create communication programs to support the company’s mission, vision, and values work, as well as its annual strategic planning process
  • Develop and deploy a social media strategy for the company and its business units
  • In partnership with the company’s human resources and brand experts, support work tied to further developing Scoular’s employment brand
  • Identify, recommend, and implement technology tools to drive impactful communication, both internal and external
  • Collaborate and partner with other team members on the BMCC team to ensure alignment between communications and brand strategies, as well as brand standards
  • Manage and deploy content for company’s future intranet, in partnership with a cross-functional team
  • Contemporize the company’s and corporate communications approach and practices, leveraging understanding of modern practices and new technologies
  • Develop, oversee, and execute on the company’s public relations activities, including writing/approving press releases, drafting messaging documents, and engaging in media outreach activities
  • Conduct regular and ongoing correspondence and relationship-building efforts with influencers in the industry and media/social media
  • Develop and manage workflow processes for communications initiatives
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned / needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • 8-10 or more years prior experience in the following areas: corporate communications, external communications, and public relations
  • Attention to detail
  • High agility and flexibility
  • Deep experience developing communications plans for initiatives and programs
  • Excellent messaging and story development skills
  • Deep experience developing enterprise-wide internal and external communications strategies
  • Proven ability to engage externally, with the ability to build relationships with strategic vendors, subject matter expert, and thought leaders
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with team, leaders, customers, and outside vendors
  • Ability to collaborate with operations and functional partners, and work on cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge and expertise in the unique nuances and external communication channels for business-to-business focused operations
  • Ability to manage multiple and time-sensitive projects
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans, to provide clear direction, and to hold people accountable

  • Four-year college degree, Graduate degree in relevant specialty preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Agricultural and/or commodities industry experience
  • International marketing experience
