Position Summary
As a Internal Investigations Senior Manager you will lead forensic and anti-fraud/corruption-related projects including internal investigations of matters that may represent a breach of the Laureate’s Code of Conduct and established policies. You will be responsible for the design and execution of key areas of each investigation including assessing risk within diverse company operations, designing investigative plans, conducting highly sensitive interviews, and evaluating allegations of misconduct and violations of the Code of Conduct. You will work closely with Finance, Legal, Compliance, Risk, HR and other departments to review and implement policies, procedures and controls to mitigate identified risks. You will prepare and review reports as well as present and communicate findings identified during investigations to senior management and external stakeholders including outside legal counsel and external auditors.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead forensic reviews, fraud andcompliancerisk assessments andinternalinvestigations. Scope of work intended to identifyrisks/exposures to FCPA, anti-bribery, theft, fraud, embezzlement, conflict of interest, collusion, kickbacks, records falsification, etc. Mainresponsibilitiesinclude:

  • Lead complex engagements and coordinate the execution of the investigation and forensic projects across multiple locations
  • Effectively manage risk and priorities associated with various engagements
  • Prepare and execute detailed forensic and investigative plans in response to different allegations of Code violations
  • Effectively evaluate issues and appropriately delegate tasks to managers and staff; demonstrate proper planning and supervision control
  • Coordinate and oversee the collection and analysis all relevant facts related to a specific allegation and to support or refute suspicions or allegations
  • Manage project teams averaging 5 -10 personnel
  • Lead fact-finding as well as admission-seeking interviews
  • Perform and review financial analysis of transactions and data, as appropriate
  • Collaborate with internal audit and internal controls teams to enhance detection and mitigation of fraud and corruption related activities
  • Identify and define control issues and root causes, provide effective recommendations and solutions to identified issues
  • Work closely with Risk Intelligence and Data Analytics team to update and develop analytic tests to detect fraud/corruption related red flags
  • Provide concise and meaningful updates and investigative findings to management
  • Prepare findings while ensuring issues and the surrounding facts and circumstances are clearly communicated in a timely manner
  • Promote new ideas and ways of executing projects
  • Supervise the maintenance of Laureate’s Ethics Helpline (case management system) by overseeing the status of cases and reviewing investigations data to produce reports, analyze trends, etc.
  • Assist in delivering training to Laureate employees, when applicable, on investigation findings, lessons learned, opportunities for improvement, and fraud risks and awareness
  • Work closely with Laureate’s compliance personnel, in-house and outside legal counsel, accounting and finance departments to respond to investigations and other special review projects
  • Work with Risk and Compliance personnel to develop and execute risk assessments for Laureate and its operations
  • Assist in financial analysis and fraud brainstorming sessions in preparation for scheduled audits and internal review projects
  • Build client base and internal (cross-functional) relationships

Required Qualifications

  • 10 or more years’ experience in forensic accounting investigations and previous experiences in public accounting (preferably Big 4), advisory firm, internal audit
  • BA or BS in Accounting, Finance
  • Licensed CPA and/or CFE or equivalent or working towards the license
  • Proven ability to lead projects and develop teamwork
  • Demonstrated track record of integrity, effective communication, innovation, and excellenc
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory and accounting requirements, SOX/internal controls and professional auditing practices including IFRS and USA GAAP basic knowledge
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to deliver high quality, actionable feedback to client management on control issues and potential solutions to close gaps
  • Ability to communicate English and Spanish (fluent)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio) and knowledge of ACL
  • Willing to travel up to 30%
