Searching for an experienced Product Compliance Engineering Manager who will be responsible for providing global product compliance leadership. In this critical role, you will manage a team working closely with AWS engineering and design teams developing customized hardware for use in AWS data centers and customer locations, as well as retail hardware products. You and your team will support the design teams throughout the product life cycle, specifying regulatory and safety requirements, providing design feedback, completing pre-testing of the hardware platforms developed by the design teams, and working with suppliers and third party certification agencies, ultimately ensuring that AWS obtains the required regulatory compliance and safety certifications for the devices.

This role will encompass a broad range of regulatory compliance subjects, including: electrical and mechanical safety, energy efficiency, and wireless and EMC, as well as environmental and materials requirements across AWS's global footprint. You will interact with Development/Engineering Services, Operations, Procurement, Supply Chain, Legal, Tax, and other internal businesses and external stakeholders to drive global product compliance. The position will report directly to the Head of Global Trade and Product Compliance (GPTC), in Seattle.

GTPC is responsible for ensuring that the infrastructure equipment necessary to support the AWS services are imported/exported in a compliant manner across the multiple countries where AWS operates and will expand, including all product certification/safety regulations.


In this role, you will be responsible for managing a team of highly qualified product compliance engineers. You will work closely with the Head of the Global Trade and Product Compliance Organization to drive strategies that ensure ongoing and new product compliance, as well as a strategy for anticipating growth and strategic requirements for AWS products globally. You will develop, implement, and communicate best practices and processes for ensuring product compliance in new country destinations for AWS networking, server, storage and data room equipment, as well as rhythms of control to ensure timely and consistent review and timely approvals for compliance.


Key responsibilities include:

· Build and manage AWS's product compliance program, including developing processes and procedures.

· Identify relevant compliance and safety standards applicable to our hardware based on our specific use case.

· Establish and maintain guidelines and best practices to mitigate compliance and safety issues early in the design phase.

· Participate in mechanical and electrical design reviews to ensure EMC/EMI and safety mitigations are properly implemented in the design.

· Engage in hands-on testing for EMC/EMI and safety compliance of equipment during development (pre-compliance testing).

· Root cause determination and corrective design action for any failures.

· Oversee filings to government or regulatory bodies for product certifications.

· Work with Legal to ensure confidential submission processes are followed for proper agency approvals (FCC, CE, CSA, and or UL ).

· Stay current on changes to global regulatory requirements and technical standards.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor's degree in electrical Engineering (or similar technical discipline).

· 10+ years of EMI/ESD hands on compliance testing, data interpretation and debug experience.

· 8+ years of experience in submissions for official certification through relevant compliance bodies such as FCC, CE, CSA or UL across multiple shipping products.

· 3+ years of experience working with Asia-based manufacturing partners.

· Proven track-record of role modeling a collaborative teamwork environment.

· Ability to move quickly and work in an ambiguous environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Advanced degree in industrial equipment safety standards/ electrical engineering and/or relevant certifications preferred but not required.

· Experience certifying and shipping products into international markets such as the EU or Asia.

· Ability to move quickly and work in an ambiguous environment.

· Experience with worldwide environmental compliance such as ROHS, REACH and WEEE.

· Ability to evaluate global regulatory drivers and their effect on product lines, growth and innovation initiatives.

· Import/Export regulatory experience a plus, but not required.

· Proven ability to drive change management and rhythms of control to ensure compliance.

· Very strong written and verbal communication skills through all levels in the organization and in a global environment.

· Strong technical and project management skills.
