The New Ventures Team’s charter is to accelerate growth of Abbott Nutrition globally by commercializing science-enabled, category redefining innovation ventures adjacent to core brand offerings.  This dedicated cross-functional team consists of passionate, experienced, and entrepreneurially-minded professionals with expertise across product marketing, science and technology, market insights, business development, and licensing.

The Senior Manager of Business Development will work collaboratively to source, screen, develop, and commercialize new high value, disruptive opportunities based on science and technology that originates within and external to Abbott. 


Identify new opportunities consistent with Abbott Nutrition’s global strategy by:

Working seamlessly with R&D to identify novel market-ready science and technology

Building an external network of entrepreneurs, technical experts, and investors to establish consistent opportunity flow

Engaging with Abbott Nutrition’s global commercial leadership team to prioritize new opportunities and manage launch transition to scale-up

Support business case development from idea through product/solution prototype to pilot market via analysis and synthesis of:

Market, customer, and consumer insights

Product/Solution strategic fit

Competitive landscape

Cross functional capabilities

Financial profiles, investments, and risk

Own the business and financial models for new opportunities

Develop business models and go-to-market approach

Structure agreements and lead negotiations with external commercialization partners

Develop financial models and P&L forecasts based on go-to-market strategy and insights

Lead prioritized initiatives through the venture commercialization process:

Present recommendations and milestones directly to Executive Leadership for project approval and funding

Lead multi-functional teams to develop prototypes and business plans


5-10 years of progressive experience in Business Development, New Ventures, M&A, or Finance Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating agreements with external parties (e.g., Partnerships, JV’s, Investments, Licensing) Strong analytical and financial modeling skills Prior entrepreneurial or innovation experience in either health care or consumer goods, ideally with multi-national scope Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams successfully against milestones and timelines Strong oral and written communication skills and story-telling ability, with proven ability to interact directly with executive leadership teams Willingness to travel domestically and internationally 25+% of the time BA/BS Degree. Advanced Degree (MBA, MS) strongly preferred.
