Job Description

What You Will Do: In this accounting policy position you will support the implementation of the new IFRS 17 insurance accounting standard. This position will serve as the primary accounting policy lead for the implementation project, and transition into Transamerica’s subject matter expert for IFRS 17. You will help set direction and transfer accounting policy decisions into business as usual teams and related processes. You will report to the Director of Finance and build relationships with key leaders in all areas of finance.

What You Will Learn: In this role, you will gain exposure to Transamerica’s rich culture, while leading us through IFRS 17 rules and changes.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Effectively manages project resources to achieve performance standards.
  • Trains and educates internal teams on IFRS 17 policy decisions.
  • Interacts regularly with Senior or Executive Management on strategy and policy.
  • Ensures the integrity and accuracy of accounting and/or financial reporting information.
  • Prepares/reviews written research and analyses of issues to enhance the understanding of senior management; makes recommendations.
  • Works effectively with internal/external contacts to ensure business issues are resolved for the success of the company.
  • Understands and applies technical accounting concepts for IFRS basis of accounting.
  • Responsible for adherence to the Company's framework of internal controls.
  • Directs the activities of one or more departments which alone or together have a significant impact on the success of the project and the organization.
  • May authorize and/or approve legal, regulatory or company documents.

What You Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum of 10 years previous experience, with degree.
  • Demonstrated management experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of a specialized accounting area preferred (for example, investments, insurance products, premium, tax).
  • Effectively communicate orally and in writing to all audiences; ability to handle multiple projects by using effective project management skills and delegation skills.
  • Organizational and prioritization skills, effective judgment and decision making.
