Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: Under direct supervision of in-house counsel, investigates complaints and other issues for which legal advice has been requested. Provides other support to legal staff.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Conducts investigations at the direction of counsel, including researching applicable standards and requirements, identifying potential leads, interviewing individuals, collecting, reviewing and analyzing data, records and other evidence, evaluating aggravating/mitigating circumstances, and preparing drafts of summaries of analyses and investigative findings and conclusions.

Acts as a liaison between in-house counsel and colleagues in human resources, compliance, quality, risk, internal audit and other departments to collaboratively carry out counsel’s investigation plan, assess and monitor recommended corrections. Ensures policies, procedures, and processes comply with applicable requirements.

Researches best practices and develop proposed procedural and process improvements.

Provides other legal support, including litigation support.

Performs other duties as requested.

Required Skills

Knowledge of Alaska Tribal Health System, ANTHC, and Alaska Native culture(s) and politics.
Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to health, privacy, employment, financial reporting.
Knowledge of legislative, judicial, law enforcement and regulatory authorities' structure and processes.
Knowledge of policies, procedures and best practices particularly in investigations.
Effective interviewing, analytical and research skills.

Required Experience

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, compliance, legal studies, or related discipline. Substantially related and progressive work experience may be substituted for educational experience at ANTHC’s discretion.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-supervisory – Seven (7) years of investigative experience, including experience conducting investigations in matters such as employment, compliance, clinical risk, and health care transactions, experience conducting full range of investigative activities, including drafting investigative reports, experiencepartnering with legal, ethics, compliance, human resources, clinical risk, finance and security on investigations.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

PREFERRED EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
Master's degree with emphasis in health, legal studies, human resources, compliance or related degree.
Juris Doctorate degree.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Experience in the Alaska Tribal Health System.
Experience supervising employees or leading teams.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
Investigative certifications will be considered.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid State of Alaska driver’s license and proof of insurance is required.

Must be able to lift approximately 20 pounds.
ANMC is not a latex free facility; an employee should expect to work in an environment where latex may be present.
May be required to work outside regular business hours
