Objective

Alstom has an opening for a Senior IXL Engineer in its Louisville, KY location. The Senior IXL Engineer demonstrates accountability for technical delivery to meet business and broad company objectives. In this role you will lead Shortline Crossings projects and issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning and contribute to the overall business strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply railway signal engineering principles, processes and procedures to perform design and detail engineering in accordance with RSE and FRA regulations and AREMA recommended practices and customer specifications.
  • Serve as the primary customer contact for the duration of each project through commissioning.
  • Manage a network of resources (including contractors) in support of project execution.
  • Resolve specification issues, handle correspondence, provide periodic updates, ensure customer satisfaction, and negotiate / coordinate with staff as appropriate.
  • Translate customer needs / requirements into detailed project plans while driving internal execution to meet project targets.
  • Manage the project budget and timeline and ensure the resources are available to complete the project within budget and on time in order to meet customer obligations.
  • Verify circuit design and detail engineering to ensure the functional, safety and statutory requirements per contract specifications are met. Thorough knowledge of Railroad Signal Systems including but not limited to: automatic block, traffic control, cab signals, interlockings, highway grade crossing warning systems and office systems. Develop product submittals that meet the specifications, design and verification of circuit plans, wiring diagrams, cable plans, field gear operating circuits, application logic programs for vital / non-vital controllers that exceed customer expectations, and meeting schedule / budget commitments
  • Design, Test, and Verify Application logic, including VHLC, Electrologixs, or any corresponding Boolean or Ladder logic rail industry control system.
  • Demonstated knowledge of Positive Train Control standards and practices
  • Perform other related duties

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university or a equivalent work experience, with a minimum of 15 years of engineering leadership / technical experience in Transportation
  • Minimum of 15 years of Railroad Application Lead Design Engineering experience

Desired Characterstics:

  • Prior working experience in Railroad Application Design and understanding of FRA and AREMEA signal engineering standards and practices
  • Experience with Highway Grade Crossings and Shortline railoroad customers
  • Knowledge of relay as well as microprocessor based interlocking systems
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Solid oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain good customer relations
