Summary: Provide instrumentation andcontrols engineering support to all phases of capital project design andexecution. Serve as the point of contact for engineering contractors,fabricators, and vendors for instrumentation and controls design. Provideengineering support for North Slope operations and maintenance activities.

EssentialDuties and Responsibilities:

  • Involved in maintaining and applying designcriteria, specifications.
  • Involved in applying industry recognized standards.
  • Leads the development of each project's instrumentation andcontrol basis of design.
  • Ensures consistency of design with Client Automation requirements.
  • Reviews design deliverables and monitor the performance of thedesign contractor's instrumentation and control design teams.
  • Participates in P&ID and other instrument and control drawingreviews.
  • Participates in process hazard analysis and safeguard evaluations.
  • Coordinate instrumentation and controls interface with otherengineering disciplines.
  • Assists in evaluation of RFQ's and vendor proposals for majorequipment.
  • Review and approve Safety Instrumented Systems engineering anddesign including SIL calculations.
  • Participates in the project risk management process.
  • Participates in the development of operation, maintenance, andstart-up philosophies.
  • Assists in factory acceptance testing and field inspections.
  • Interface with client North Slope based engineering andmaintenance personnel.
  • Participates on start-up team.
  • Helps prepare quality assurance/quality control programs andplans.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from accredited college.

PreviousNorth Slope or arctic experience.

Minimumseven (7) years experience in instrumentation and controls design in oil/gas,power, or petrochemical industries.

Mustbe able to travel to the North Slope as needed for design support orcommissioning/start-up activities.


Stateof Alaska PE license.

SafetyInstrumented Systems experience.

Thirdparty certification of SIS competency.

Experiencedesigning Bailey DCS, Moore DCS, Fisher DeltaV DCS, TI Siemens PLC's, andindustrial process control systems.

Workingknowledge of flow measurement principles and practices.

Experiencewith designing various field bus communications networks such as Modbus, HART,Profibus or Foundation Fieldbus.

LanguageAbility :

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating andmaintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routinereports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups ofmanagers, client or employees of organization.


Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages,area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basicalgebra and geometry.


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concretevariables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral,diagram or schedule form.


To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MSWord word processing software; MS Excel spreadsheet software and any otherdiscipline-specific design or analysis software, as required.

Certificatesand Licenses:

State of Alaska PE license is preferred.
