  • We are looking for an industry expert for the Hardware Engineer position. This position will be responsible to craft the vision and technically lead the recommendation, standardization and build of Workday's compute and storage hardware which supports all Workday's products. This is a great opportunity to join a small but rapidly growing team that is shaping the future of Workday.
  • This position is for a full time position located in our Pleasanton office.
  • Responsibilities

  • Develop next generation server hardware standards
  • Define and develop performance and hardware infrastructure strategies (Life Cycle Management for on-premise infra)
  • Manage Hardware budget and drive effort to realise cost savings
  • Develop profiling tools to identify root-cause, optimize performance bottleneck across the Infra Stack - including platform & system level bottleneck analysis.
  • Measure & model system behavior under load using proxy workloads & profiling tools.
  • Support operation team to triage hardware / component issues
  • Work cross function with various teams (app, network, virtualization,...) to solicit feedback and define system requirements for next generation hardware
  • Communicate with various teams (development, marketing, production…) to collect, review requirements and report results
  • Establish trust and strong relationships with senior leaders, operation managers, and peers across other teams as it pertains to infrastructure needs and systems.
  • Create and maintain engineering standards and documentation
  • Write test procedures, collecting data and perform statistical analysis.
  • Working with cross-functional teams to test and debug complex hardware technologies
  • Write performance tool to determine latencies
  • Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Solid knowledge of x86_64, ARM64, MIPS, Intel's Atom, Xeon & Xeon-Phi micro-architectures
  • Knowledge of Intel and AMD chip standard and roadmap
  • Knowledge of memory centric computing
  • Solid knowledge of the following operating systems: UNIX, Linux, AIX
  • Expertise in PCIe, SR-IOV and emerging technology trends such as DPDK
  • Expertise in server network subsystems with a focus on modern Ethernet NIC hardware architectures such as SmartNic and Host-NIC interaction
  • Solid understanding of virtualized environments
  • Expert-level network and server troubleshooting ability - Iperf/Netperf/Wireshark/ssh, etc
  • Ability to script in Bash, Perl, or Python to automate repeatable task
  • Experience with reporting and managing cases/issues in JIRA
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
