Senior Hyperspectral Scientist / Engineer
We are looking for a senior-level Scientist/Engineer with experience with hyperspectral data and sensors to work within the team to assess the radiometric, spectral and spatial performance of hyperspectral and multispectral imaging systems including the Landsat series of satellites. Areas of work may include: spectral unmixing, using hyperspectral data to simulate data from various multispectral satellites, detector response characterization, artifact correction, noise removal, radiative transfer modeling, cross-calibration between sensors (spaceborne, airborne, and terrestrial), radiance and reflectance product validation, etc. This position will support the EROS Calibration and Validation Center of Excellence (ECCOE).
Education: Minimum of a Master of Science Degree in Engineering, Physics, Earth Science, or fields related to remote sensing systems required. A Doctorate/PhD is a strong plus.
Experience: Five or more years working with multispectral and hyperspectral remotely sensed data.
Characterize and compare the strengths and weaknesses of data from various space-borne and airborne sensors.
Develop and refine methods for the characterizing and improving the quality of data in the EROS archives.
Develop and execute methods for the assessing and monitoring the ongoing performance of EROS-developed products, including surface reflectance, surface temperature, and higher-level products.
Develop new methods of data analyses across multiple datasets including tools to support analyses locally and in the cloud.
Communicate with outside agencies, universities, and companies, nationally and internationally
Reporting as required, including at regular meetings with ECCOE Project Management as well as producing peer-reviewed publications.
Strong experience working with multi- and hyper-spectral imagery
Knowledge of remote sensing principles, radiative transfer, optics, atmospheric correction
Knowledge of signal processing, algorithm development, statistical analysis, database manipulation, and cloud computing.
Ability to characterize Remote Sensing data of differing types and resolutions (Optical, Thermal, SAR, Hyperspectral, etc).
Understanding of Lunar Calibration desired; experience a plus
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Skill in Matlab, IDL, Python, C, or C++.
Experience working in LINUX/UNIX environments.
Ability to think independently.
Ability to handle complex multitask environments.
