Role description:Arcadis is currently seeking a highly motivated SeniorHVDC Electrical Engineer to join our Power Delivery team.

This is a senior technical position within the Power Delivery unit of Arcadis. The position consisting in the coordination/development of the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) team, and leading and/or performing HVDC planning/feasibility studies, interconnection studies, transient studies, and systems analysis investigations for clients in North America primarily, but also globally. The incumbent will also work closely with other Power Delivery departments, including the Substation Engineering, Transmission Engineering, Protection & Control Engineering, the Renewables teams, as well as with other Arcadis divisions on related HVDC Electrical Engineer system studies and power sector master plans.
The incumbent shall be familiar and experienced with key North American Market Operators (i.e. MISO, PJM, NE-ISO, NY-ISO, ERCOT, SSP, AESO, IESO) policies, guidelines, regulations, rules, requirements and criteria as applicable to grid interconnection, performance and planning, especially related to bulk power systems.
Role accountabilities: - As a HVDC SME, support our clients by performing front-end engineering design activities, system studies, EMT & Phasor-domain modeling, developing technical specifications, reviewing design submissions, and supporting commissioning activities.
- Perform or coordinate power systems analysis activities including load-flow, short-circuit, transient stability, electromagnetic transient, small-signal stability analysis, reliability analysis etc. working on important HVDC projects around the world integrating renewable resources and delivering/controlling power to designated areas.
- Preparation of functional specifications for facility requirements related to different system development portfolios, for purposes of developing preliminary designs and obtaining estimates for the associated facilities. Perform, coordinate or review of HVDC planning/system performance studies and transient studies for compliance with prevailing standards and criteria and good engineering practice.
- Lead/oversee the continuous development of enhanced HVDC system planning & studies processes, methodologies and tools for quality and efficiencies, and for ensuring being at the forefront of technical expertise and innovation in the industry.
- Provides guidance to project teams on both technical and project matters, with a significant client interface.
- Undertake thought leadership activities (e.g. speaker at conference, panelist, technical articles, whitepapers, etc.) and promote Arcadis's know-how in the HVDC and T&D sector in the region. Maintaining close coordination with other relevant Arcadis Business Units and Practices for cross selling and cross staffing opportunities. Develop business with clients by applying advanced technologies, engineering concepts, and approaches to unique engineering problems.
- Guiding, mentoring, and training of junior staff in the area of HVDC/FACTS and other engineering disciplines.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate effectively with colleagues. Additionally, this position may involve travel of up to 25% to client sites and customer meetings, both within North America and potentially internationally.
Qualifications & Experience:Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 8 years of experience in HVDC
- Proficient with electromagnetic transient software, Mathcad, Matlab, Aspen/CAPE, PSS®E software package, including all modules for load-flow, short-circuit and transient stability analysis. Experience with alternative planning software applications, including PSCAD, TARA, PSLF, DigSILENT, or DSA Tools, is highly desirable.
- Expertise with advanced grid technologies (HVDC, BESS, and related IBR) and their specification, application, study, modeling, design, and operation, including but not limited to HVDC converter technologies (e.g., VSC, LCC), configurations, and application/control methods of grid following, grid forming and grid firming. Strong knowledge of power systems engineering techniques applied to transmission planning, infrastructure design, and relay protection.
- Familiarity with utility industry standards and practices to include NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI, and have advanced knowledge of Substation Protection and Control design practices related to development and relevant supporting calculations.
