Job Description:

The Senior HR Analytics Specialist uses data and analytics to identify opportunities to target and optimize Total Reward spend and employee experience. Partnering with Total Rewards leaders, the role is accountable for analyzing human capital data and recommending actions based on the insights generated, including identifying and project managing/executing different use cases for HR analytics to support the business strategy, and presenting the results to a variety of stakeholders.

What will you do?

Diagnosis and analysis

  • Working across Total Rewards (including pensions, benefits, workforce and executive compensation), autonomously proposes questions/areas for data-driven analysis, liaising with stakeholders to define requirements
  • Independently acquires, cleanses and analyzes data from multiple sources (e.g. Workday, SLF finance systems, recruiting systems, benefits claims records, labour market data, census information, social media, etc.) to create a rich picture of Total Rewards issues and opportunities for the company
  • May support primary data collection of Employee feedback through surveys, focus groups, etc.
  • Diagnoses Total Rewards issues; provides predictive ability via early identification of potential challenges
  • Recognizes patterns and develops hypotheses regarding root causes
  • Generates and documents actionable insights
  • Proves or disproves hypotheses via data analysis grounded in thorough stakeholder interaction
  • Develops and automates complex reports autonomously

Communication of results leading to persuasion to take action

  • Plans and communicates effectively before executing solutions, to ensure alignment to organizational goals and requirements
  • Tells compelling stories using data analyzed, to persuade stakeholders to take/support actions that drive business results, such as interventions in compensation and benefits processes and programs
  • Designs and proposes realistic solutions grounded in current resource availability, strategic priorities and existing culture, including draft timelines and work structures, to ensure solutions are feasible in our environment
  • Manages stakeholders, reporting on progress and incorporating new input: managing expectations, driving agreement on prioritization/sequencing, shaping the data agenda
  • Acts as a dynamic change agent in the Total Rewards function, "evangelizing" a data-driven approach, and a belief among staffers that they can leverage tools and resources to make better business decisions by shifting to a more data-centric approach

Supports existing initiatives through data analysis

  • Supports key Total Rewards processes (e.g., annual pay/performance cycle) by conducting analysis and data interpretation to identify trends and issues, and communicates information to HR professionals and business leaders
  • Assists existing projects requiring data analysis and critical thinking

Monitors external trends

  • Acquires and maintains knowledge of key developments in the field, bringing insight to the organization and the Total Rewards function to continuously develop our metrics and analytics capabilities. This work includes research, development of business cases and recommendations for new tools and applications to help achieve our Total Rewards strategies

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor's degree in quantitative discipline or data visualization or equivalent work experience
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience designing analytical frameworks and predictive analytics
  • Strong knowledge of human resources information systems, database functionality, quantitative methods and behavioural decision science
  • Excellent knowledge of leading data analytic software tools (i.e. SAS, R, Python SQL/ML, Tableau)
  • Ability to automate/develop complex reports &/or produce dashboards & scorecards & able to propose solutions to data issues
  • Good working knowledge of basic data warehousing concepts
  • Superior communication and writing skills and the ability to effectively package and present information to senior business leaders and HR professionals (Intermediate-or-better PowerPoint and Word skills)
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, organize and accomplish objectives independently and proactively
  • Strong project management skills, knowledge of change management strategies and ability to develop supporting tools and materials
  • Power-user of Excel, Access and VBA
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills
  • Curious, proactive mindset a must
