Roles And Responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Managing engineering activities in accordance with the corporate strategic plan and facilitating an effective partnership with senior management
  • Developing, planning, coordinating, directing project technical aspects (may be required to lead technical work for unique, complex projects)
  • Ensure implementation of technical assurance processes with assistance from Group Manager and Technical Advisors
  • Active involvement in marketing and new business development, including preparation / review of proposals
  • Recruit, manage, and mentor junior engineering staff
  • Oversee resourcing and ensure that all work performed by the group is to the highest standard
  • Build and maintain positive professional relationships with staff, clients, potential clients, subcontractors and key Fugro personnel worldwide
  • Support technical advancement with the Geotechnical group and seek consistency with best practice methods across wider Fugro geotechnical community
  • Support technology transfer by leading and promoting training sessions (internal and external)
  • Promotes business line and company reputation through regular publication in technical papers, conference participation and committee membership.




  • BS in Civil Engineeringrequired from accredited engineering university (advanced degree with geotechnical emphasis preferred)
  • 8years of engineeringexperience in a consulting environment, and a minimum of 3 years of work experience must be at or above the supervisory level
  • Strong problem-solving skills with respect to both technical and supervisory issues
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with peers, subordinates and superiors
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to support and foster support toward the company Quality Management System
  • Ability to plan, resource and execute multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in MS Office and technical software applications.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Virginia or able to obtain registration by reciprocity
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record
  • Previous experience in marketing technical services would be advantageous
  • Some travel (domestic, international and offshore) may be required.
