Overview

To maintain the accuracy and timeliness of the accounting for all Canadian locations, including tax filings, and statutory reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the general ledger system for Canadian locations

  • Month end accounting: accruals, prepayments, balance sheet control account reconciliations, stock reconciliations

  • Smooth running of the day to day transactional activities

  • Ensuring compliance with all legal and statutory requirements including tax, external audit, internal controls and Sarbanes-Oxley legislation.

  • Maximization of current ERP and reporting system.

  • Completion of Monthly closing entries, and processes.

  • Preparing monthly financial reporting package (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash-Flow).

  • Responsibility for accurate sales tax compliance

  • Collaboration on AP/AR functions and personnel

  • Limited travel may be required to other North American locations

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE (ESSENTIAL & DESIRABLE)

  • 5 years of experience in accounting and finance. (E)

  • Education – University/College Degree in Accounting of Finance. (E)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, email and internet. (E)

  • Relevant experience in manufacturing, retail or distribution (E)

  • Knowledge of Canadian GAAP, Sales Tax (E)

  • Knowledge of Foreign currency translation (E)

  • Knowledge of Inter-company accounting (E)

  • Experience within a head office Corporate function (D)

  • Hyperion Reporting (D)

  • JDE Edwards ERP System(D)

KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Self-motivating and capable of working independently.

  • Assertive in implementing and driving adherence to controls and processes.

  • Have the ability to establish priorities and complete assignments accurately and on a timely basis

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

  • Management and supervision skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Proficient in Excel

  • Fluency in French a plus.
