Responsibilities

Basic Purpose

Responsible for the wholesale buying, selling and scheduling of natural gas to serve the Company’s generation fleet and local distribution company. Assess and determine optimal solution in response to changing operating conditions and contractual obligations to ensure system reliability while minimizing costs tocustomers. Execute natural gas transactions in the short-term market to optimize assets while ensuring all activities are aligned with the Company’s optimal economic dispatch strategy and trading policies. Manage and coordinate various request for proposal projects related to natural gas.

Depending on qualifications of applicants, this position may be filled at a lower level than that which is posted.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute wholesale natural gas transactions through interaction and negotiation with other market participants
  • Continuously monitor the natural gas market to maintain a working knowledge of price, availability and demand, pipeline operational information and actively pursue economic opportunities
  • Identify and mitigate risks in response to changing operating and market conditions, adverse weather or peak network demands, and contractualobligations
  • Independently handle scheduling functions, accurately and timely schedule receipt and delivery of natural gas throughout the day
  • Ensure natural gas scheduled and transportation utilization meets contractual and reliability requirement while minimizing cost to customers
  • Track and manage pipeline imbalances utilizing knowledge of applicable tariffs and rates of utilities and pipelines to minimize associated fees and operational constraints
  • Accurately and timely actualize transactions based on pipeline reports and update related information into the system of documentation
  • Assist in the monthly invoice reconciliation effort and resolve discrepancies
  • Collaborate with other business units and/or departments to support optimal economic dispatch
  • Gather, analyze and utilize market intelligence to identify opportunities and regional trend and effectively communicate to management
  • Assist in the development and implementation of analytical processes, policies and procedures related to market operations and trading
  • Maintain all related record of transactions and maintain logs and other documentations as required with a detail oriented mindset
  • Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understand and comply with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company
  • Provides training as required for less experienced natural gas traders
  • Serve within an on-call rotation including evenings, weekends and holidays

Requirements

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree in the area of specialty and 6 or more years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Comprehensive knowledge of, and experience in trading, the natural gas commodity markets, of the contractual terms within natural gas supply contracts and tariff provisions of each of the pipelines utilized by the company. Strong knowledge of the company’s planning, engineering, fuel supplies and operating practices and precedents. Comprehensive knowledge of the utility industry, economics, statistics, utility finance, natural gas futures trading, hedging, utility contract principles, negotiation techniques, and the use of personal computers for detailed modeling, analysis and data retention. Ability to work in a fast-paced short-decision time frame environment with the ability to concentrate while in the midst of distractions. Demonstrated ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form. Position requires rotating weekend and evening on-call assignment. Work hours are dictated as requiredto meet the nomination schedules of the pipelines.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
Works a rotating shift schedule to cover 24x7 operations which includes nights, weekends and holidays. General office environment. Requires color vision and ability to lift up to 10 pounds.



Compensation

Annual Salary: $93,500 (Min) to $121,100 (Mid); Up to 25% Short Term Incentive Plan opportunity at the discretion of the company.
