About the Job - The Senior Executive Recruiter reports to the SVP and Manager of Executive Recruiting & Community Bank Recruiting at KeyBank and is responsible for assisting in the development of the holistic strategy for the function as well as leading and executing full lifecycle recruiting in support of a book of the senior-most executive searches across the bank. This includes developing and executing robust recruiting strategies through research; cold calling; candidate development, assessment and presentation; negotiation of complex offers and relocation packages; and closing of new hires. As a strategic advisor, the Senior Executive Recruiter is expected to bring robust market knowledge to inform talent decisions with a goal of building diverse executive leadership talent at Key.
The Senior Executive Recruiter will also directly manage the Executive Recruiting Specialist who supports the entire team. This role requires an engaged recruiter with true executive (C-suite), full lifecycle experience as well as demonstrated capability and interest in helping to define and execute the evolving strategic vision for the function. Essential Job Functions - Drawing on business and market knowledge, serves as a strategic consultant to executive leaders and HR partners at Key to develop and execute targeted recruiting strategies to support defined talent needs
Proactively provides recommendations to the Executive Recruiting Manager to assist in the definition and execution of the strategy for the Executive Recruiting function at KeyBank; attends meetings and actively participates in strategic discussions with the Manager of Executive Recruiting across the bank.
Builds and executes search strategies which include target lists, candidate assessment criteria, sourcing methodologies and tools, research, proactive cold calling and candidate development, retained search firm selection and management (when appropriate), assessment and presentation of a qualified and diverse candidate slate, interviewer preparation and coaching, feedback collection and synthesis, reference checks, and offer crafting and negotiation. Reviews and validates job descriptions.
Communicates appropriately, proactively and consistently with hiring managers, HR partners, search firms and contract research firms, and all external contacts and potential candidates (regardless of that individual’s eventual disposition on the search); ensures a positive client and candidate experience
Prioritizes work and sets appropriate expectations with hiring managers and partners; anticipates roadblocks and issues, course corrects, resets expectations, and redirects resources as necessary
Utilizes passive and direct sourcing techniques, and seeks new methods and innovative solutions, to identify and attract prospective candidates and build talent pipeline
Rigorously assesses executive talent and makes hiring recommendations
Develops long-term relationships with potential candidates
Researches industry competitive intelligence and analyzes external market trends to inform talent and organization decisions as well as assist with workforce planning and provide for opportunistic hiring of talent; Conducts market mapping projects in support of defined initiatives
Partnering with Compensation Managers and HR partners, understands and effectively utilizes comprehensive knowledge of company benefits, compensation philosophy and structure, internal equity data, candidate compensation expectations, and budget to manage complex hiring negotiations including compensation recommendations, relocation, and possible counter-offers
Partners with legal to understand candidates’ existing restrictive covenant agreements; modifies recruiting activity appropriately; facilitates the crafting and completion of any relative, necessary documentation
Conducts thorough references and oversees the completion of background checks on final candidates
Fully utilizes Key’s specialized executive recruiting database (Encore) to track talent and make recruiting efforts more efficient, as well as retain the compliance integrity of data associated with executive searches.
Represents and differentiates KeyBank to external candidates by effectively describing Key’s businesses, strategy, culture and values
Assists in the facilitation and execution of internal talent slating and movement when appropriate
Assists in the orientation and onboarding of new executive hires
Assesses, contracts with, and actively manages external vendors including retained executive search firms, contract researchers, and relocation and area tour providers, when necessary.
Partners with KeyBank’s Talent Acquisition Team Managers and recruiting peers to share talent, market intelligence, and best practice recruiting methodology
Manages an average of 10 executive recruiting searches and projects
Directly manages and develops the Executive Recruiting Specialist and serves as a mentor to Community Bank Recruiting peer team members
Establishes and nurtures close partnerships with peers, other HR COEs, and HR partners
Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree preferred
Demonstrable interest in the company as well as the role itself
A minimum of 8 years of full lifecycle experience recruiting highly accomplished, highly compensated executives and professionals in a corporate recruiting or retained executive search environment; C-suite recruiting experience required
Direct management experience preferred
Proven track record of developing, assessing, attracting and hiring (including complex offer negotiation) successful executive level talent
Must possess and exhibit the maturity, poise, polish, presence, intellect, and organizational and communication skills necessary to successfully interact with a variety of individuals including the firm’s senior-most leaders and external candidates of a high professional caliber
Demonstrated experience developing or assisting with the development of a recruitment strategy, project or process that addresses a business need broader than an individual search/requisition
A proven advisor to hiring managers relative to recruiting strategy and execution, candidate assessment and hiring, and market intelligence. Demonstrates exceptional influencing skills; is not an order taker.
