The Senior/Executive Director of Global Publications (based on level of experience), will have ultimate responsibility and accountability for the successful execution of publications for all company products (marketed and pipeline), ensuring appropriate resource levels, systems support, and policies and SOPs are available to ensure business needs are met in an efficient, timely, and compliant manner. A core competency will be in establishing a clear and viable strategy for the Scientific Publications capability, aligned with overall Medical and Corporate Vision and objectives, and designed to ensure delivery of timely, high-quality scientific publications and congress presentations. This includes synthesizing stakeholder input, ensuring alignment cross-functionally, conducting gap analyses, and defining and facilitating decision-making on publication strategy for all therapeutic areas for all markets.
This position reports to the VP, Scientific Affairs and is based remotely, but ideally within commuting distance to our NY/NJ offices.
––Lead the preparation and maintenance of rolling 12-month strategic publication plans across the company product portfolio, inclusive of Phase I-IV studies and a supportive role in non-clinical trial sources such as Health Economics Outcomes Research and Real-World Evidence studies
––Manage performance of direct reports and relationships with external medical writing and communication agencies
––Responsible for understanding early phase compound activity, timing and dependencies for program progression, and resources needed as compounds move through clinical development
––Management of the annual publications and congresses budget to effectively and efficiently meet all timelines related to the strategic plan.
––Advise on publications budget adjustments, rationale, and financial forecasts, as needed.
––Collaborate with Scientific Communications functional head to develop training materials on publications, ensure alignment with the scientific platform(s), and deliver excellence in all activities related to publications, at all levels of the organization
––Responsible for ensuring alignment and management of a growing portfolio with the internal Publications Committee and Sr. Leadership for generation of all publications
––Maintains and leverages effective relationships with Medical, Clinical, Biostats and other key stakeholders regarding progress and performance, and to ensure oversight of activities related to Publication delivery
––Strong editorial experience including the accurate presentation of material per scientific standards, the ability to improve writing and edit to achieve exceptional results
––Ability to analyze and justify journal selections for publications
––Serve as the MA Publications expert for internal and external customers regarding best practices and publication guidelines, as well as internal policies and SOPs on publication-related activities
––To liaise with Medical Information and other stakeholder groups to develop and maintain up-to-date bibliographies for assigned compounds
––Co-Chair cross-functional monthly Publications Team Meetings and Annual Strategic Publications Planning Meetings
––Identification and oversight of a publication platform that meets industry standards and is compliantly able to pass all regulatory audits
––Oncology and/or Autoimmune experience strongly preferred
––Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant external guidelines related to publications, and current standards of good publication practice (GPP2, ICMJE)
––Significant previous experience with peer-reviewed scientific publications
––Vendor management experience
––Significant experience in/knowledge of clinical drug development
––Experience in pharmaceutical or biomedical writing
––Excellent communication, prioritizing, problem-solving, planning and organizational skills
––Experience in managing/leading cross-function teams
––Experience with publication-support systems

––Ability to travel (US and International, as needed) up to 30% for internal and external mtgs
Advanced degree preferred and 7+ years of healthcare or related experience, including 5+ years of medical affairs and/or publications planning and execution experience and including 3+ years of budgetary and/or people management experience
