As a Senior Estimator you will be responsible for preparing and coordinating complete estimates for Flatiron projects, primarily focusing on large scale heavy civil Alternative Delivery (DB, CMGC and P3) pursuits across the Southeast region. Reporting to the VP of Preconstruction, you will be based out of our Morrisville, NC office.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate total estimating effort, leading a team of junior estimators.
  • Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
  • Review schedules of projects being estimated
  • Organize estimating team to prepare bids, select vendors and/or subcontractors and determine cost effectiveness of projects to be bid
  • Perform Risk and Contract Management responsibilities as required
  • Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures
  • Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work
  • Consult with clients, vendors and other stakeholders to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve ant potential issues
  • Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality or availability of materials
  • Act as the project champion in working withother Flatiron employees, owners and subcontractors to get commitment and consensus regarding proposed bids
  • Review list of work to be performed by subcontractors
  • Review final estimate and apply strategic cost factors where necessary
  • Monitor client changes and advise the estimating team of all changes in scope during the estimate period
  • Partner withother estimators to turn project over to production team
  • Follow awarded contracts as assigned – may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits
  • Advise on major changes in scope of work and monitor actual cost to estimated cost
  • Upon project completion, conduct debriefing with estimating, engineering and production teams to discuss positive and negative aspects of the project
  • Search, analyze and communicate to the team options for the most effective means and methods of construction
  • Prepare bids, select vendors and/or subcontractors and determine cost effectiveness of projects to be bid
  • Conduct or assist in with performance reviews of team members

 

Requirements:

  • Qualification in civil engineering, quantity surveying, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years estimating and cost control related experience, with at least 4-5years in heavy civil construction.
  • Technical knowledge and experience bidding design-build and PPP projects in the US is an asset
  • Thorough knowledge (ideally with hands on application) in the construction of earthwork, structures (including complex bridge structures), paving, underground, and grading practices on large high-profile and complex heavy civil projects
  • Strong knowledge of HCSS/Heavy Bid, AutoCAD, Primavera (P6) are strongly desired
  • Willingness to lead and mentor junior estimators
