Are you an environmental planner with project management experience able to lead environmental assessments in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)? Can you deliver on the environmental components of multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects including road, rail and transit projects under various Environmental Assessment processes? If so, we are seeking an Senior Environmental Planner to support Parsons Infrastructure business.   The Senior Environmental Planner’s key responsibilities include: 

  • Act as Environmental Planner on EA projects (MTO, Municipal and Transit projects), and Environmental Manager on AFP projects (IO, Metrolinx and MTO Design-Build Major/Minor projects)
  • Environmental business development for provincial and municipal government pursuits
  • Provide environmental guidance and advice to internal stakeholders on projects
  • Coordinate with internal and external technical service areas, discipline leads and technical staff, on technical studies and preparation of environmental assessment documentation
  • Project management for Natural Environment and Natural Heritage components of Transportation, Transit, and Municipal Infrastructure projects
  • Direct the preparation and submission of plans, reports, and documents; provide senior oversight, leadership
  • Management/oversight of sub-consultants; provide QA/QC on environmental deliverables; Liaise with clients, sub-contractors, regulatory agencies
  • Lead and manage consultation and stakeholder engagement, including consultation with Indigenous Communities

Mentor junior/intermediate staff    Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Degree in geography, environmental studies, environmental science, planning or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in environmental planning
  • Knowledge of natural heritage, environmental policy/legislation interpretation and project lead experience
  • Demonstrated experience in key market sectors (Transportation, Transit, Municipal Infrastructure)
  • Experience in Environmental Assessment including MTO Class EA, Municipal Class EA, Transit Project Assessment Process, Canadian Environmental Assessment Act
  • Knowledgeable of Natural Heritage Inventories, Subwatershed Studies, Environmental Impact Studies and Landscape Ecology and implications for Environmental Assessments
  • Experience with regulatory agencies and key stakeholders (MNRF, MOECC, Conservation Authorities, Transport Canada, Parks Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada); experience with Indigenous Community consultation/engagement an asset
  • Strong technical, management, writing and presentation skills
  • Familiar with proposal preparation including development of scope of work and budget for various Parsons endeavors
  • Environmental Professional (EP), Registered Professional Planner (RPP), and/or Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP) professional designation (or eligibility) preferred
  • Thorough understanding of local, provincial and federal environmental policies, legislation and applicable law
