Senior Engineering Geologist at State of California in Sacramento, CA

Under the supervision of the Supervising Hazardous Substances Engineer I (Unit Chief), in the Engineering and Special Projects Office (Branch) of the Site Mitigation and Restoration Program (SMRP), the Senior EG serves as technical expert and project manager and oversees all aspects of cleanup of assigned hazardous waste/substance sites, with emphasis on munitions and explosives of concern (MEC), technical support, project management, and other administrative duties.

Technical Expert

Provides technical support and responds to technical consultative work requests from SMRP staff in the field of MEC safety, investigation, detection, and destruction technology. Performs surveys and inspections and completes reports on management of hazardous substances specifically related to MEC. Reviews and verifies the conformance of maps, drawings, plans and specifications in connection with site investigations. Reviews and comments on cleanup plans. Conducts site inspections. Reviews soils and geologic conditions, and reviews geologic components of structures for detonations, open burn/open detonation setups and locations. Consults with management, professional and technical personnel regarding methods and locations of detecting MEC, processing, treatment and disposal and resource recovery systems required for the protection of the public health, air, water and land from pollution. Prepares reports or recommendations on permit applications for the condition of hazardous substances disposal sites. Provides consultative and technical assistance to state and local agencies in the development and operation of hazardous substances management. Gathers pertinent information for court cases and gives testimony as required. Investigates complaints regarding hazardous substances disposal conditions and makes appropriate recommendations for risk reduction, prevention and abatement.
