DESCRIPTION
Duties: * Distribution Standards is searching for a senior engineer who is passionate about distribution systems and the equipment that builds them. In this position, you will learn the technical details of distribution equipment and systems and apply your knowledge to write specifications, approve equipment for use, and write design and construction standards. The standards you will write are the building blocks for constructing a safe, reliable and sustainable distribution system at optimum life cycle cost. * Working in a team environment, you will liaise with vendors and other departments in order to integrate new equipment into the system, troubleshoot field equipment issues, and develop and support the construction, design, and commissioning standards for new equipment. * When equipment fails, you will lead an investigation into the failure and provide recommendations to limit future failures. * As a subject matter expert on distribution equipment, you will build relationships with and support groups across BC Hydro including Field Operations, Engineering, Design, Safety, Procurement, Asset Investment Management, and Grid Operations. Qualifications: * Undergraduate or Post-Graduate Degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred, Mechanical or other relevant discipline may be considered) recognized by Canadian Universities and accredited by Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC). * Relevant engineering experience demonstrating an ability to perform at or near the Senior Engineering level. * A minimum of 8 years of progressive engineering experience. Candidates with lesser experience may be considered. * Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with EGBC. * Technical knowledge of distribution systems and equipment including electrical, mechanical, and operating requirements.
The ability to investigate, analyze and solve a variety of engineering problems, many of which are of a challenging and unusual nature. * The ability to manage relationships and work closely with stakeholders to drive innovation, find engineering solutions that add value, and address competing interests at least life cycle cost. * The ability to manage the successful delivery and implementation of projects through strong project management skills and a customer service attitude. * Excellent ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in technical writing. * A demonstrated ability to lead through influence with proven facilitation and negotiation skills is an asset. * Able to work effectively within a team, yet self-motivated to drive tasks to successful completion. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint). * Valid BC Driver’s license and ability to travel to various BC Hydro sites or supplier factories to perform engineering duties. * Commitment to learning and development demonstrated though ongoing development such as self-study, attendance at technical and soft skills courses, and participation in technical and professional societies. * Demonstrated behaviour that upholds a culture of safety.
