The HBO Technology team is the group responsible for delivering HBO’s award winning content to our subscribers 24/7. Our work enables Game of Thrones, Westworld, and Hollywood’s best movies to be consumed anywhere and everywhere. Within the Technology organization, the Business Systems team, as a part of the Media Technology & Information Services (MTIS) division, is responsible for end-to-end solution delivery, infrastructure management, and client support across applications, platforms and end-user compute environments. This includes delivering business solutions to support the Global Media Supply Chain and path to air systems; evolving the enterprise data and analytics platform in support of HBO’s direct to consumer business; providing 24x7 client support for 3,000+ users globally; and supporting more than 300 applications and a diverse set of tools and platforms across HBO.

The MTIS IT group has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Desktop Engineer who will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware and operating systems of physical and virtual desktops in support of business requirements. HBO is hiring Senior Desktop Engineers at its facilities in Hauppauge, NY, Santa Monica, CA, and at its New York City headquarters.


You will be responsible for all aspects of managing and administering the end-user compute environment. This includes designing, implementing and executing software package delivery processes, optimizing system images and the desktop software suite, and performing ongoing audits of projects to improve the security, reliability, compliance and performance of the desktop compute environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design optimized end-user compute systems with an emphasis on security, performance, usability, and reliability.

  • Manage and report on software delivery processes across MacOS and Windows machines.

  • Work with Information Security and Compliance to optimize the core system images used at HBO in various environments across a wide range of end-user compute environments.

  • Provide administration and support of SCCM and JAMF Casper environments.

  • Execute on service delivery requests from IT service management system (ServiceNow)

  • Perform system software and hardware upgrades and changes; including planning, scheduling, testing, and coordination.

  • Develop and maintain system images for desktop, laptop, and mobile devices supported by MTIS.

  • Monitor, measure, and test current/new infrastructure products and services.

  • Perform operational, project, and support tasks with little to no supervision, while meeting or exceeding SLAs and performance expectations.

  • Develop and ensure deployment documentation such as design and environment specifications, user and technical manuals, and process documentation

  • Track workload, assign tasks, and mentor junior team members when appropriate


HBO is looking for a highly skilled, energetic and experienced engineer with a proven track record managing end-user compute infrastructure, including all aspects of solution delivery and support for Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android devices across physical and virtualized environments.

Technical Requirements:

  • Eight years of experience designing optimized end-user environments, with demonstrated experience planning large-scale, high-performance system images.

  • Eight to 12 years Developing system images and applications, evolving application packaging and deployment standards.

  • Broad experience in managing high-volume, scaled footprint of endpoints.

  • Experience on Windows, MacOS, and mobile platforms for physical and virtualized systems.

  • Demonstrable experience with performance improvement on endpoints.

  • Good knowledge of security software for the end-user environment, including VPN, antivirus systems, monitoring systems (e.g. CarbonBlack) and authentication platforms (e.g. Okta or Azure AD).

  • Experience managing Active Directory group policy standards.

  • Solid understanding of all critical networking concepts (DHCP, VLANs, ACLs, Firewalls, etc).

  • Proven experience with project management and process improvement.

  • ITIL concepts and processes (change management, quality testing, SLAs).

  • Demonstrated detailed knowledge on how all aspects of Windows 7 and 10 operating systems interact with critical enterprise tools, including CrashPlan Pro, Credant, and Microsoft Office 2016 / Office 365.

  • Knowledge of critical end-user systems, including all common operating systems, enterprise productivity software administration (including Office365), mobile computing platforms including iOS and Android devices.

Additional requirements and competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or other related technical discipline is preferred.

  • Eight to 10 years of experience in large scale desktop engineering role.

  • Excellent analytical and research skills.

  • Adept in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing and managing several projects at once.
