Job Description

SNC-Lavalin Inc is seeking a SeniorElectrical Engineer in our Dartmouth, NS office. This position includes a broad range of consulting tasks. This positionreports toEngineering Support Supervisor and will beresponsible to provide design agent services and technical support to minor warships and auxiliary vessels. The successful applicant must be able to work interchangeably in a team setting, and independently, and will be expected to liaise with professional staff including engineers, subcontractors and clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform engineering and electrical systems studies, design, failure investigations and analysis, technical evaluations, cost estimates, and options analysis for new equipment or modifications to existing equipment and systems. 
  • Prepare engineering change specifications;
  • Organizing and supervising work of junior personnel ;
  • Ensuring design work interfaces will with that of other disciplines;
  • Electrical systems analysis, drafting and design;
  • Contributing to the planning, budgeting and scheduling of work to achieve prescribed objectives;
  • Preparing progress reports and monitoring project controls;
  • Recommending changes in plans and specifying estimated costs;
  • Recommending substitutions in materials and payment for complete work;
  • Consulting with other departments, suppliers and contractors to clarify specifications;

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in ElectricalEngineering with a minimum of ten (10) years of demonstrated marine work experience in engineering within the last 15years;
  • Experience in a design office setting;
  • Project management experience;
  • Some knowledge of AutoCAD software and ability to view electrical design drawings, in addition to a proficiency in Microsoft Office applications;
  • A working knowledge of electrical standards;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, planning and organizing abilities with excellent interpersonal skills;
  • A strong team player with the ability to work independently;
  • Familiarity with company’s established guidelines, procedures and practices as well as other departments, suppliers and contractors
