Senior Electrical Engineer

KATERRA is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to contribute to the engineering of building design, manufacturing and construction in compliance with applicable building codes. A wide degree of creativity, initiative and latitude is expected. This role requires a PE accreditation and signing/sealing of project documents is also required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leading design as engineer of record
  • Lead by example to help to set a standard of engineering excellence
  • Both Lead and Work as member of team to develop Electrical Designs for buildings from Concept through Construction Administration
  • Perform engineering calculations and performance simulations including sizing, selecting, and specifying electrical system components
  • Ensure designs are compliant with the companies' principles of design for manufacturing, assembly, and systems integration
  • Perform factory and site inspections
  • Prepare reports, technical memorandums, recommendations, and cost estimates
  • Contribute to Leadership of a team of engineers in a collaborative environment
  • Plan and develop resource plans, set tasks and check for completeness and quality
  • Assist in the evolution of company standards
  • Actively mentor junior engineers

Required Skills & Experience

Technical: 10+ years of electrical design experience in commercial, industrial, and residential buildings

  • Experience applying new technology, software, and scripting to improve traditional design, manufacturing, and construction processes
  • Interest or experience with prototyping and developing new products or design concepts
  • Familiarity with industry standard design tools (Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, SKM, etc.)
  • Expertise designing and delivering low voltage systems is highly preferred (security, controls, communications, etc.)
  • Expertise designing and delivering indoor and outdoor lighting systems
  • Engagement in IEEE, IESNA, NFPA or other related industry organizations
  • LEED AP accreditation or other demonstrated experience with sustainable design

Managerial: Experience managing projects and teams of people including:

  • Demonstrated effectiveness at leading high-performing teams and developing engineering talent
  • Project Resource Planning and Budget Tracking
  • Task planning and allocation to a team of engineers/designers/BIM staff
  • Mentoring junior engineers and checking their work

Education and Licensure

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is required
  • Licensure: PE is required
