Summary: The Senior Inside Sales Representative is responsible for serving as a leader among the Inside Sales team exemplifying the sales skills, product portfolio/technical knowledge and deep understanding of sequencing market/industry factors necessary to achieve sales goals and elevate fellow team members to do the same. This position requires the proven ability to both drive revenue in a dynamic and demanding environment, while proactively engaging with Inside Sales management and other team members to remove any barriers to success for the entire Inside Sales Department. The job involves engaging and qualifying new and existing customers, positioning Illumina products in order to provide solutions to their projects and business needs and partnering closely with otherinternal and field-based members of the sales team that are in pursuit of common sales goals. The ISR role is exciting and challenging as you have the opportunity to work with top academic institutions, research centers, and business organizations around the world utilizing your scientific knowledge and lab experience while selling products for the world leader in Genomics. The position is an internal sales position and requires minimal travel time (10%).

Minimum Requirements: Background includes a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Life Science Sales with a bachelor’s degree preferably in Biology/Genetics; or 3 years’ experience and a master’s degree; or a PhD with 1-2 years work experience. Experience with strategic sales skills and knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing and Genotyping methods, required. Must be able to handle complex negotiations and closing techniques. Ideal candidate will have advanced technical knowledge and serve as a subject matter expert to the team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Actively participates as a mentor for more junior staff.
  • Expected to provide coverage for vacant territories at managerial discretion.
  • Acts as a voice of ISR peers and proactively provide feedback that is actionable and solutions-driven.
  • Expected to support internal training activities and onboarding of new ISRs.
  • Effectively collaborates with other departments, acts as a representative of Inside Sales in cross functional settings.
  • Proactively and regularly seeks opportunities outside of day-to-day responsibilities related to assigned district that will serve the greater good of commercial ops.
  • Shares best practices associated with account management, prospecting, opportunity management, and analytical resources.
  • Establishes and executes on strategies for obtaining new customers and maintains/grows existing customer accounts in order to meet and exceed revenue goals.
  • Effectively sell the total Illumina product portfolio and end-to-end solution, including but not limited to: Consumables, Instrumentation (Cap Ex), and Professional Services.
  • Skilled at making outbound contact to existing and prospective customers to identify sales opportunities.
  • Proven capability to present versatile and unique solutions during customer negotiations in order to establish mutually beneficial circumstances for the customer and Illumina.
  • Works effectively in a team environment to drive and create revenue opportunities.
  • Manages customer relationships post-sale, including a strategy to develop long term business relationships.
