The Senior Director of Purchasing is responsible for the procurement of all raw materials, supplies, components and purchased finished goods. The key responsibility is directing the activities of the corporate purchasing function and providing direction to the plant operations purchasing teams. You will be charged with ensuring that all product and material purchases meet defined quality standards. As a visionary procurement leader and change agent, you’ll assist in the implementation of a procurement strategy to frame the company’s practices, policies, priorities and approaches to how the organization procures materials and services and raises its performance level.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in managing product and general procurement to meet plan growth and cost reduction targets;
  • Identify new partners and innovations;
  • Assess existing procurement systems, procedures, philosophies (including measurement methodology) for insight and opportunities for potential improvement;
  • Ensure all product/material purchases meet defined quality standards and monitor internal customer satisfaction with procurement services;
  • Perform supplier audits and capacity assessments as needed to anticipate key supplier problems that could affect supply;
  • Organize and manage general managerial and administrative activities, including monitoring staff performance and evaluating department effectiveness;
  • Manage, coach and develop a team;
  • Negotiate with both internal and external groups and effectively settle differences with minimum disruption to relationships and the process;
  • Analyze data and market trends to forecast purchasing price variances; and
  • Develop and supportbudgeting for purchases price and standard costs.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7+ years of purchasing/procurement experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years of project management experience
  • 5 years of experience in commodity management
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred
  • Proven negotiations skills
  • Purchasing or Production certification (e.g. CPM or APICS) a plus
  • Experience with new product aligning customer needs with the supply base
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP
  • Excellent teaming abilities
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Detail oriented to manage project tasks
