Summary:

Today, with more than 2,200 local units nationwide, the NAACP continues to work in service of its core mission and its members.

The NAACP seeks an experienced digital marketer with proven experience across all aspects of digital marketing to join our dynamic Communications Department. Reporting to the Vice President of Communications, the Senior Director for Digital Advocacy will support the organization in achieving policy goals and outcomes through strategic digital advocacy efforts. They will be responsible for mobilizing members and supporters using email, web, text, social media and other digital platforms. The successful candidate will be energetic and positive, with a proficiency in web development and an excellent capacity for fast-paced, collaborative work.

Summary of Duties:

The Senior Director for Digital Advocacy duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Identify opportunities for high-impact digital engagement and advocacy campaigns
  • Write and edit compelling campaign content including emails, social media posts, landing pages and actions to engage supporters to take action and participate in campaigns
  • Develop petitions, messages to elected officials, call actions, and other engagement tactics
  • Design and implement test plans, metrics and segmentation for A/B tests for email, social media, and website content
  • Provide leadership and governance to the digital media and marketing function within the organization
  • Liaise effectively with key Communications, Development, Advocacy, and Program staff to establish campaign goals, develop campaign concepts, and review content
  • Code and test HTML and CSS emails using email management software; review and edit emails to ensure quality
  • Develop list-building tactics using web, social media, and email communications
  • Hold relationships with partner organization campaigners and digital engagement staff and identify opportunities for collaboration
  • Work with vendors, consultants and contractors to implement online campaigns
  • Conduct research on trends in the digital marketing industry, emerging technologies, and tactics for online engagement

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position will possess many, if not all, of the following professional qualifications, competencies and personal qualities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, MBA, or MPA, preferred
  • 5-7 years working experience in digital marketing, nonprofit communications, online campaigning, or related fields
  • Experience with mobile optimization and mobile outreach preferred
  • Understanding of digital storytelling and experience developing content for issue-based or political advocacy campaigns; familiarity with a range of relational organizing, influencing engagement, and other online campaigning tools, tactics and strategies
  • Excellent verbal, writing and interpersonal communication skills; strong attention to detail, ability to write and deliver work product under deadlines, and commitment to high quality standards
  • Mastery of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to code emails for multiple email clients
  • Basic understanding of mobile app development and app maintenance
  • Proficiency with website analytics tools
  • High proficiency with top digital advertising self-service platforms including Google AdWords, Facebook Business Manager, Twitter Ads, Google Analytics, and DoubleClick Campaign Manager
  • Knowledge of website development and content management systems such as WordPress and Drupal
  • Ability to lead, manage, coach, and develop others to ensure appropriate successor readiness; drive performance and accountability through leading cross functional teams while focusing on design, technology, operations and brand marketing
  • Ability to work rapid-response campaign hours—including nights and weekends—when news breaks or campaign activities otherwise demand
  • Affinity for the mission and values of the NAACP
