  • Position Summary
    • The Director of Behavioral Health Services at Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) is a key management and leadership position within the organization. He/She will ensure clinical operations achieve excellence in patient care, support open and efficient access to the behavioral health services and ensure safe, effective patient flow. The Director of Behavioral Health Services will ensure that operations are compliant with regulatory requirements, adhere to budgetary guidelines and are in keeping with the Core Values of the organization. He/She is primarily responsible for the successful implementation of SMHC’s Behavioral Health long-term strategic plan as well as the broader MaineHealth (MH) Behavioral Health Services Line goals. The Director of Behavioral Health Services will oversee all of the departments of Behavioral Health including, but not limited to, the inpatient mental health unit, Electro Convulsive Treatment (ECT) program, partial hospital program (PHP), addictions and substance abuse programs, Intensive Outpatient program (IOP) and work in conjunction with the Emergency Department Acute Psych (EDAP) service. The Director is responsible for providing collaboration and consultation to all areas of SMHC that require the need for Behavioral Health Services. The Director will also be the contact person responsible for establishing and maintaining contacts and collaborations with Behavioral Health state agencies and for ensuring integration and a seamless continuum of care with Maine Behavioral Healthcare’s (MBH’s) programs/services.
  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychiatric nursing or the equivalent required.
    • Master’s degree in Psychiatric nursing or related field preferred.
    • State of Maine Board of Nursing licensure required.
    • 5+ year in management/leadership and administrative responsibilities with mental health and substance abuse populations.
    • Budgetary and EHR management skills
    • Recognized as an expert in his/her field.
    • Effectively collaborate and work well with MH and MBH system leaders as well as the statewide community and mental health services providers.
    • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills.
    • Able to think creatively, analytically and conceptually for planning, organizing and coordinating of a major functional area.
    • Systems thinker with strong change management skills
