The Position

Conceptualizes, develops and executes best-in-class commercial innovation strategies and initiatives in order to maximize value for all inline and pipeline products in the Novo Nordisk portfolio. Monitors trends and changes in the access and provider landscape, gathers actionable insights, and deciphers various/future payment and delivery options for pharmaceutical brands and in turn develops strategies to strengthen Novo Nordisk's competitive positioning for the future.


Relationships

Reports to Vice President (VP), Market Access & Public Affairs Strategy, Innovation and Execution (SI&E). Interacts frequently in collaboration with internal management and senior level customer representatives. Interacts internally with colleagues across Market Access & Public Affairs, as well as team representatives from Value Communication, Contracting Strategy, Pricing, Contracting, Operations and Reimbursement (PCOR), Account Executives, Field Sales, Medical Affairs, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Brand Marketing, and all others, including global colleagues/counterparts, on a routine basis. Close relationships with Global Market Access, the Global Project Teams (GPT) and Core Commercialization Teams (CCT) for launch brands® are required. External relationships include interactions with key managed markets customers, organized provider groups, innovation thought leaders, as well as vendors and consultants.



Essential Functions

  • Leads a team focused on the development of the commercial innovation strategy for inline and pipeline products across the Novo Nordisk portfolio and the company as a whole
  • Designs local market-specific pilot programs to incubate new ideas, sets strategic imperatives and evaluates strategy success against those imperatives. Regularly reviews program progress to accomplish business objectives
  • Responsible for working closely with franchise teams on a partnering strategy that supports and filters unique opportunities
  • Interface with executive office on innovation framework/funnel and pilot opportunities
  • Assist in analyzing opportunities with significant financial investment in accordance with growth and profitability objectives
  • Develop relationships with all key stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem across the NNI & global to ensure opportunities are efficiently and effectively coordinated
  • Establish and maintain a broad network of relationships with key players in the external innovation ecosystem
  • Responsible for tracking commercial trends affecting payers, including but not limited to changes in organized customer groups, business models, payment reform, and value-based care
  • Collaborates closely with Market Access Strategy & Innovation colleagues to understand key market access trends and develop innovation-focused strategies to strengthen Novo Nordisk's competitive positioning
  • Works collaboratively with Value Communication, Contracting Strategy, Marketing/Brands, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, PCOR, Finance, Account Executives, and Field Sales to gather insights of changes in market dynamics and implement market access strategies
  • Translates changes in access landscape to clear and actionable insights and develops innovative and actionable scenario-based response strategies that will position Novo Nordisk for future success in a changing delivery and payment environment
  • Generates the necessary deliverables to educate and/or guide the relevant internal functions on payer-affecting current and anticipated trends and insights
  • Delivers internal and/or external trainings and presentations on ways to recognize and develop innovation within the team
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key customer executives
  • Adheres to administrative policies and procedures and encourages others to do the same
  • Contributes to practices that attract and retain the best people


Development of People

Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.



Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business or equivalent experience. MBA or another advanced degree preferred. Relevant experience may be substituted for degree, when appropriate
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible work experience in driving innovation and change at a corporate or high departmental level. Pharmaceutical industry experience preferred
  • A minimum of three (3) years of leadership experience, with demonstrated results in innovation and change management
  • Strong understanding of the complex and rapidly evolving factors influencing US market access, including reimbursement trends, payer concerns and healthcare policy
  • Creative and entrepreneurial thinking is required
  • Have strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and project management skills
  • Ability to translate strategies into measurable tactical programs that have high return on investment (ROI)
  • Requires leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate a vision and engage people in that vision, including in a fluid, rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to access and influence various functional areas and motivate groups to action without direct line management responsibility
