POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Director, IT Business Partner, Commercial & Medical Affairs provides the strategic direction for Halozyme's Commercial and Medical Affairs technology. She/he partners with Commercial and Medical Affairs leadership to identify gaps in current state business processes and develop a strategic investment roadmap to resolve the critical gaps. This role will influence Commercial and Medical Affairs leadership and advocate for technology solutions that optimize those functions. She/he will be a key member of the IT Leadership Team and assure that all technology initiatives are delivered with the appropriate focus on corporate strategic goals, IT strategy alignment and appropriate post-go live support models. In addition, this role serves as the single point of contact/accountability for all Commercial and Medical Affairs technology needs including service and support.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

These may include but are not limited to:


  • Develop strategic investment heat maps identifying business capability gaps and develop a 3-year roadmap to target solutions/platforms to address critical gaps
  • Build trust with senior Commercial and Medical leadership by demonstrating a deep understanding of both the Commercial and Medical business functions and advocating for strategic solutions instead of point solutions
  • Identify opportunities where technology can build competitive advantage and educate IT, Commercial and Medical leadership teams; provide guidance and counsel on technology available that drives capability improvements consistent with business direction and allow Halozyme to scale effectively
  • Manage and help set Commercial and Medical leadership expectations regarding timing and value of each technology investment
  • Facilitate the negotiation of requirements across multiple stakeholders and translate those requirements into a functional requirements document
  • Partner with IT Applications team to manage on-time and on-budget project delivery of new systems driving business capability improvements; ensure that projects deliver on stated goals and meet any pre-defined metrics
  • Serve as the IT Single Point of Contact to Commercial and Medical; ensure that expectations are met through delivery of services or projects
  • Ensure compliance requirements (e.g. GxP, SOX) are properly assessed and that appropriate Computer Systems Validation (if applicable) is implemented for both new solutions and improvements to existing systems
  • Identify vendor partners that demonstrate similar values as Halozyme and provide high quality services at a reasonable price
  • Manage vendor relationships and identify key vendors as potential strategic partners
  • Assist in contract negotiations with vendors to assure optimal pricing on projects and services
  • Lead/manage internal and external resources in support of business-related projects and activities
  • In collaboration with Commercial and Medical leadership, ensure that all technology investment align to IT Strategic Plan and Roadmaps
  • Assist with short- and long-term budget preparation for technology related business initiatives
  • Ensure adherence to corporate compliance guidelines as it relates to system implementation and operation
  • Collaborate with Legal/Compliance functions in development and enforcement of various initiatives

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Prepare business case for IT investment and assist in preparation/presentation to Commercial or Medical Leadership Teams, CIO and the Executive Team, as needed
  • As a senior IT leader help to ensure IT is seen as a valuable business partner and that the IT value proposition is aligned to corporate goals
  • As a senior IT leader, focus on building IT talent, serve as a mentor to junior team members and provide guidance on skills needed to build new colleague capabilities to meet growing company needs
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Bachelor's degree in the field of computer science or information systems or related field with at least 12 years' IT experience in positions of increasing responsibility, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a leadership role (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
  • Previous experience in Life Sciences (Biotech, Pharmaceuticals, Medical Device) industry including implementation of solutions focused on Commercial and Medical teams
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with business team leaders and create alignment on technology investment
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with the IT Applications team to align on project scope, evaluate vendors, plan projects and assure all deliverables are met on time and on budget
  • Strong technical knowledge and practical experience in defining, implementing and managing business & technical solutions
  • Deep knowledge of key technologies critical within a biotech Commercial and Medical Affairs organization including Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Promotional Materials Review, Commercial Business Intelligence, Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Management and Investigator Sponsored Trials (IST) Management
  • Established ability to successfully lead high-profile, complex projects and implement with minimum disruption to business
  • Excellent ability to rapidly assimilate and apply new technical knowledge based on departmental and corporate goals and objectives, work successfully in cross functional teams, effectively identify problems and develop flexible, scalable and cost-effective solutions
  • Excellent influence skills with senior executives as well as more junior team members
  • Effective ability to challenge ideas and help provide alternative opinions and approaches to Commercial and Medical leadership
  • Quality driven, detail oriented with the ability to manage in a matrix organization
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technology concepts to executive management and the user community in a way that is connected to business objectives
  • Proven ability to establish close relationships with key solution vendors as well as technology services vendors to improve vendor service levels and responsiveness
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, possessing the ability to communicate at both a technical level as well as at a business subject area level

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Equipment: PC, scanners, facsimile machine, voice mail and e-mail systems, and common office machines, or ability to be trained. Knowledge of other equipment required: N/A

Software Knowledge: Windows, MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel): Commercial/Medical CRM
