The Senior Director of Ambulatory Services, a member of the senior management team, is responsible for the overall development, management and integrity of client relationships and delivery responsibility for a set of specific engagements. Each engagement typically is composed of an interdisciplinary team that will be accountable directly to the Senior Director with respect to the engagement.

 

The Senior Director, Ambulatory Services will report to the Vice President of Ambulatory Services within Optum Advisory Services.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build and strengthen client relationships across the delivery of all Optum services
  • Responsible for a sales target to be attained through the commercial processes of new business development
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction, holding workstream engagement leaders on-site accountable for performance and assisting them with complex and challenging tasks
  • Ensure outstanding and consistent customer service
  • Where necessary, assist in the recruitment of team members required to fulfill the terms of the engagement, including primary recruitment responsibility for the lead physician executive or administrative executive, practice operations and patient access roles and collaborative recruitment responsibility for other roles such as professional fee revenue cycle, EMR optimization, leadership academy and other disciplines where the Firm has established leaders who will own primary recruitment responsibility
  • Responsible for the integrity of operational processes, both administrative and clinical, including building engagement budgets, ensuring adequate human resources, and compliance with regulatory standards
  • Responsible for meeting profitability targets for specific engagements, as well as pursuing and earning performance based bonuses in at-risk engagements
  • Makes necessary adjustments to engagement plans in order to achieve targeted results
  • Develops and manages professional training and development specific to the business of managing health system sponsored medical group transformations, including mechanisms to identify and socialized lessons learned in one market to teams working across the portfolio
  • Oversees the establishment of internal controls for compliance and develops tools to monitor controls
  • Extending existing engagements through further work

Required Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience at a senior level managing physician enterprises
  • Experience working in physician-led, integrated healthcare delivery organizations
  • Proven experience developing and implementing operating plans, and analyzing financial and quality data
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal or no supervision
  • Demonstrated success in yielding unprecedented results within the area of health care operations management
  • Proven physician relationship skills
  • Proven ability to be a creative an innovative thinker

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in health administration or other related field
  • Experience with healthcare system physician group practices within a consulting organization
  • Experience in developing and/or operating management service organizations beneficial
  • Delivery experience within a consulting framework
  • Experience as a successful influencer who can interact effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders such as other physicians, healthcare administration, and staff
  • A proven leader in demonstrating how to build a partnership between physicians and administration
  • Proven success in sales and business development within a consulting organization
  • Proven communication skills, including listening and presenting
  • Ability to build trust and confidence with utmost integrity
  • Proven knowledge of how to get things done in a complex organization
  • Ability to lead change and achieve support for change; builds consensus
  • Strong customer service-focus for patients and employees
  • A proven strategic thinker with ability to see big picture
  • Proven business acumen and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the development, motivation and directing of teams
