The Role

Design for Manufacturing (DfM) Engineering is a highly experienced Manufacturing Engineering team that provides development, technology, and operational guidance across the product lifecycle spectrum. The team's mission makes it a key team member across all product stripes, guiding product design and MFG teams in balancing competing needs, driving good business decisions, and successfully reaching NI's quality and revenue objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with engineering teams through the entire development cycle to ensure a robust and manufacturable design
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for DfM content related questions
  • Assist in establishing and defining DfM and product performance metrics
  • Drive DfM behavior and cost driver results
  • Partner with the R&D Business Owner on product readiness/release decisions
  • Absorb the R&D product roadmaps to provide feedback/influence for manufacturing & test technology roadmaps
  • Participate in key milestones of the NPI process for a given R&D Hardware Business Area
  • Participate in reflection around product performance metrics or escalations and drive change back into the DfM program

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Engineering/Computer Engineering or equivalent from an accredited engineering program
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Resident expert in at least one DfM subject matter
  • Excellent project management skills, working in a lead role in a matrix organization
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence without authority
  • Thorough understanding of product development phases and MFG operations
  • Strong Relationship building
  • Ability to travel Domestically and Internationally, up to 10%

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • Cross functional work experience in both R&D and MFG environments
  • Working knowledge of one or more National Instruments product lines
  • Broad understanding of Warehouse, Assembly, Test
  • Topic knowledge of Planning, Supply Chain, Logistics, Costing, Calibration, RMA
  • Information seeker and curious about learning why
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply lessons learned
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills
