Valassis Digital is seeking a highly motivated Senior DevOps Engineer to develop tools and solve technical challenges for our Engineering Teams. This crucial role encompasses both new development and operational problem resolution for a high volume, highly scalable system. The Senior DevOps Engineer will work with other talented engineers to leverage exciting new technologies in solving a variety of complex challenges.

Experience: You have strong experience programming and writing code to help automate systems and build tools with a solid background in highly scalable distributed systems.

Technical chops: You are a strong programmer who enjoys using your skill to solve complex operational issues. You understand what’s involved in Docker-izing applications and running them at enterprise scale. You are comfortable managing infrastructure supporting Kubernetes both on prem and in the cloud in a fast paced distributed team and environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Coding tools to automate deployment, monitoring, management, and incident response across our widely distributed production infrastructure
• Develop, Enhance and Maintain our infrastructure codebase
• Work closely with engineering to create, grow, and accelerate delivery of our solutions in a repeatable way
• Drive automation of monitoring to gain more insight into applications and system health
• Diagnose and support complex systems
• Provides Linux systems administration support to the Engineering Team
• Participate in on-call escalations to troubleshoot customer facing issues

General Competencies

• Experience with DevOps concepts and techniques
• Solid understanding of agile methodologies, working in small teams, continuous integration and delivery
• Strong programming background with a good understanding of core software design principals
• Very strong Linux experience in a highly-available production environment
• Define and document current and future configuration processes and operating procedures

Skills:

• Strong experience with writing and designing efficient and maintainable software (Algorithms, Data Structures, OOP design, Big O)
• Strong experience with various programming languages (e.g. Java, C#, Python, Go, Bash, PowerShell)
• Strong experience with infrastructure automation frameworks (Ansible, Puppet, Chef or Salt)
• Strong understanding of architectural requirements and development processes involved in building reliable, robust, scalable data products and pipelines
• In-depth knowledge of automating widely distributed systems
• Experience with Docker and container management frameworks (Kubernetes, Mesos, Rancher)
• Experience with various build automation tools (e.g. Jenkins, Gitlab)
• Familiarity infrastructure monitoring software systems (Nagios, Zabbix, PagerDuty, VictorOps)
• Familiarity with SQL and relational databases (Postgresql, MySQL)
• Understanding of DNS and networking
• Experience with Windows server infrastructure is a plus
• Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science (Required)
• Developer level coding skills coupled with Linux SysAdmin level abilities.
