The Senior Designer Manager for the email design team provides design support for transactional and marketing emails. The job is part manager, part designer and part developer. The chosen candidate manages a small team of designers/developers, while often digging-in and helping to balance workload - performing coding and design work.


The ideal candidate is highly creative and versatile, with knowledge of the latest trends in email design and development. S/he should have a solid understanding of design process and familiarity with attracting, retaining and developing top talent within mid to large size organizations. You love working with a diverse array of people, aligning stakeholders, guiding design approaches and obsessing about cultivating transparency. You're highly collaborative, comfortable driving critical initiatives, and presenting workto leadership. In addition, you have a mature perspective and fascination for how design teams get work done and enjoy teaching and deploying new methods to add to design's growing toolkit.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead email campaigns from inception to launch, working collaboratively across design and copy on concepts and implementation.
  • Develop thought leadership and high standards to the email program as well as support the email team to meet and exceed standards.
  • Deliver and engage effective creative solutions against marketing briefs and content strategies.
  • Ensure that all campaigns are aligned with the company's overall strategy, branding, and marketing and audience goals.
  • Collaborate with design leads and external teams to ensure new email journeys are produced at standards that uphold/elevate the company's brand identity.
  • Build cross-functional relationships and interact daily with internal teams to support multi-channel initiatives.
  • Maintain awareness of key performance metrics and incorporate them as part of the goals of the email designs.
  • Explore new patterns and practices and enhancing design's methodological toolkit
  • Help introduce and lead change and workflow improvement.
  • Present complex design concepts, user needs, and design rationale to multidisciplinary teams, as well as to key stakeholders and business partners
  • Assess and help define testing scenarios, interpret data behind testing, iterate, and apply learnings.
  • Develop new design patterns and templates as required.
  • Contribute and iterate a scalable process and strategy for a growing team.
  • Organize, update and maintain interface elements and asset libraries.
  • Understand and provide guidance on email compliance standards.
  • Test and troubleshoot email campaigns across multiple platforms, browsers and email clients.
  • Collaborate with other developers, designers, copywriters, and marketing managers.
  • Contribute to training that will enable other teammates to develop email.
  • Create, resize, and optimize images and graphics for the web.
  • Prioritize and assign projects out to the team.
  • Assist in training and development of team members.
  • Work closely with internal marketing departments on projects and prioritization.
  • Assess and help define testing scenarios, interpret data behind testing, iterate, and apply learnings.
  • Make suggestions that help optimize processes and increase design quality
  • Review design proposals to ensure that efforts are aligned with company, stakeholder, and end user priorities

Requirements:

  • An online portfolio link or access to design samples is required
  • Bachelor's Degree (Fine or Graphic Arts degree a plus)
  • 5+ years of experience in front-end development or web design; must have prior email design and development experience
  • People management experience preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator Dreamweaver (or similar), Mac OS X, iOS and Android.
  • Commitment to detail and consistency.
  • Excellent type and layout skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • Awareness of current trends, industry competitors, and design styles.
  • Excellent organizational/prioritization skills.
  • Flexibility and openness to adapt behavior and work methods accordingly.
  • Previous experience writing HTML email code
  • Previous experience with animation and motion graphics
  • Demonstrated passion for email and other digital channels
  • Excellent ability to successfully guide and move forward multiple projects at one time
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment
  • Leadership skills in mentoring and leading creative teams
  • Good reading, written and verbal language skills (English)
