Senior Design Research Engineer, Power Electronics
The Power Electronics Group within the United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) has an exciting employment opportunity for a Sr. Design Research Engineer, Power Electronics.
The candidate is expected to interact with the UTRC Program Offices and United Technologies Corporation (UTC) business units to enhance existing programs in the area of design of power electronics circuits and systems for a large range of UTC products.
The candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment focused on innovation and be able to partner with leading worldwide institutions (university, government agencies, and national labs, professional organizations) to meet organizational objectives. The candidate will need to have exceptional communication skills, capable of interacting with UTRC management and external customers. Additionally, the candidate must be able to provide timely, accurate and detailed reports and presentations.
The Sr. Design Research Engineer, Power Electronics will support fundamental and application-specific research related to power electronics circuits and systems design under the direction of a Project Lead or Principal Investigator but with minimum supervision. The specific areas of research include, but are not limited to:
-Motor drives and control
-High power density converters
-Power systems interaction and optimization
-Wide band gap device evaluation and circuit design
-High voltage and high temperature electronics
-Magnetics (inductor and transformer) design, analysis, prototyping and evaluation
-Thermal design, evaluation, and correlation to system models
-Advanced packaging and manufacturing
- Hardware-in-Loop and other advanced modeling/simulation techniques
Qualification: The individual will also perform other support activities for the various UTC businesses as needed, and other tasks as assigned by the group leader.
Expert knowledge with industrial or academic experience post M.S., or at the Ph.D. level, in the areas of design, modeling, analysis, and simulation of power electronic systems. Particular areas of expertise include motor drives, high power density converters, complex electric power systems and Hardware-in-Loop and other advanced modeling/simulation techniques.
Experience with production processes for manufacturing and assembly of electronics is highly desirable.
The candidate must have a relevant portfolio of peer reviewed and refereed publications in the field of power electronics. The job requires peer recognized achievement in the area power electronics design, including modeling and prototyping as well as controls. A specific list of publications with title, date and forum must be submitted.
Education: Minimum: M.S. in Electrical Engineering with at least 3-5 years of relevant research or industry experience post degree
Preferred: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with at least 0-2 years of relevant research or industry experience post degree.
