Position Objective:


To manage and facilitate major new product development, product improvement and cost reduction projects through creative project leadership, evaluation of customer requirements, concept development, and product design. Also is responsible for research of new technology and materials in support of innovative designs for meeting customer requirements


Job Description:


·        Assumes project leadership in developing detailed customer requirements and corresponding product functional requirements in collaboration with the Market Manager and field visits

·        Provides effective leadership to multifunctional project teams both individually and collectively to help accomplish the goals of the project and stimulate growth of the team’s capabilities

·        Stimulates generation and development of effective ideas for new products, product improvements and cost reductions in order to provide the best possible product for our customers

·        Conducts the engineering analysis with respect to strength calculations, design layout, fits and tolerances and modeling as required

·        Conducts Design Reviews, Peer Reviews, DFMEA’s, DFM and Design Validation as part of new product development

·        Conducts accelerated product life cycle tests and evaluates field testing and potential misuse of all products in order to provide a long and safe service life for the end user

·        Provides complete, documented product and engineering specifications, working closely with Manufacturing Engineer, Marketing Manager, Unit Manager, Industrial Engineer, Planner and Quality Control

·        Provides support for development of new manufacturing processes

·        Provides support for Applications Engineering in product information and documentation requirements for new products. Also provides technical leadership for product customization

·        Prepares recommendations with supporting logic for product changes that will improve sales potential and/or reduce cost

·        Provides technical writing support and editing of service manuals, assembly and operating instructions

·        Coordinates and executes with other departments custom (Performing Arts) product development tasks including:

o      Product design including necessary calculations

o      Design Reviews

o      Design Validation

o      Design Failure Modes Effects Analysis (DFMEA’s)                       

o      Design for Manufacturability (DFM)

o      Design cost analysis

o      Prototype development

o          Accelerated product life cycle tests (including environmental testing)

o          Design specification development – engineering specifications

o          Early concept development documentation for Engineering Services

o          Preproduction support

o          Field testing (beta sites)

o          Materials acquisition

o          Tooling acquisition

·        Pursues continuing education relevant to design development and new technology


Minimum Qualifications:


·        Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

·        Five (5) years of progressive product engineering experience

·        Five (5) years of product engineering management experience, preferred

·        Proficiency with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software including solid modeling with SolidWorks

·        Proficiency with finite element analysis (FEA) software and stress calculations

·        Knowledge of the basic materials and processes used in industry with emphasis on new technology developments

·        Ability to conceptualize, formulate design possibilities and coordinate development by the project team under time and financial constraints

·        Commitment to effective project leadership, coordination and evaluation, with recommendations for changes required to improve overall results
