The Senior Database Administrator will advance the capabilities of the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) by providing design, implementation, and maintenance for database systems. The position includes architecture and management of database objects, thorough activity logs, software patching, and backup routines. Additional responsibilities may include supervising a team of database engineers, project long-term requirements, and prepare regular progress reports. NAVOCEANO is located at NASA’s Stennis Space Center, and the work will be performed in government facilities.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with:
    • Relational database management systems (RDBMS) design, development, implementation, and maintenance
    • RDBMS concepts (e.g. cardinality, relational theory, normalization)
    • Working and scripting in a Unix/Linux environment
  • Self-motivated initiative with leadership experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Strong additional consideration for experience with

  • PostgreSQL utilization
  • Code repository systems (e.g. Subversion, Git)
  • Object Relational Mapping (ORM) tools (e.g. Hibernate)
  • Virtualization (e.g. WMware, AWS, VirtualBox, Vagrant)
  • Provisioning systems (e.g. Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
  • Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance
  • Certifications in computing and networksecurity

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
  • 7 years’ experience in performing systems analysis, development, and implementation of information technology (IT) resources in a business, mathematical, or scientific setting
    • (post-graduate degrees may substitute for 2 years of experience)
  • Interim Secret Clearance or greater with the Department of Defense.
