Description

We are seeking an experienced lawyer to join the Claim Law Unit, effective June 1, 2019. This position will be part of a team of lawyers and legal professionals responsible for providing broad legal and regulatory support to Claims for all property casualty lines of business. The role reports to the Managing Associate General Counsel, Claims Law and will be filled atthe Tier 6 level commensurate with the hired candidate's experience.

  • Provide strategic advice ensuring comprehensive, responsive, and timely legal, regulatory and business counseling on Claims strategic initiatives, innovations, and day-to-day operational decisions and issues
  • Build strong, strategic partnerships with business clients in Claims and colleagues across law that directly or indirectly support claims including Litigation, Compliance, Enterprise Transactions, P&C Law and Government Affairs to identify legal, regulatory, reputational and litigation risks and opportunities for Claims
  • Effectively communicate on significant legal risks and mitigation strategies while demonstrating a thorough understanding of business vision; prioritize work to align with Claim plans for achieving strategic business goals
  • Seek out opportunities to improve legal and financial outcomes, claim behaviors, positive interactions with customers, claimants, regulators, and others
  • Address issues that arise in the course of day-to-day operations including contract drafting, review of new claim practices, responses to regulatory complaints and inquiries, and assigned project work

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years of property casualty insurance experience with a demonstrated understanding of thestrategic, financial and operational levers that drive value in the insurance industry generally and claims specifically
  • A self-starter; decisive; able to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage change effectively
  • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking ability; sound legal judgment with demonstrated ability to assess risk and offer practical legal strategies to achieve client objectives
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; able to influence decisions, manage conflict, develop compelling business and legal arguments
  • Proven experience communicating effectively with business clients and/or law department management on complex legal issues
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/initiatives simultaneously while meeting target dates and delivering successful outcomes
  • Candidate must hold a JD degree and must be admitted to practice in Connecticut or be qualified as authorized house counsel in Connecticut
  • Collaborative, team-oriented work style, with strong interpersonal skills
